Remember when the Bushies were engaged in their daily feargasm over FISA? Every day, George W. Bush was on television from the south lawn of the White House excoriating the Democrats for holding up the wiretaps and data mining and thus endangering the American people. Hell, Michael Mukasy literally cried on television about it.
It was relentless, tenacious and it worked.
We don’t need to use fear like that, but there’s no reason why the Democrats and the president can’t engage in the same war of attrition, just hammering the Republicans day after day on filibustering everything from the troops to middle class tax cuts. Aggressive, concise and unrelenting messaging. Every day — from all corners of the Democratic establishment with the president leading the way.
The Republicans are disorganized and divided. Their policy proposals are laughably moronic and contradictory. Their candidates are lightweights. We should be able to roll them up like a cheap wingnut rug. Instead, I get the distinct impression the Democrats are moping around the house in their sweatpants eating cookie dough and hitting reload on their email, waiting for something to happen. It won’t. They need to get in front of this. It’s not that difficult.
