Believe in Mitt Romney. And Climate Change.

Mitt Romney isn’t doing himself any favors by saying things like this.

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (Reuters) – Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney broke with Republican orthodoxy on Friday by saying he believes that humans are responsible, at least to some extent, for climate change.

“I believe the world is getting warmer, and I believe that humans have contributed to that,” he told a crowd of about 200 at a town hall meeting in Manchester, New Hampshire.

“It’s important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may be significant contributors.”

I don’t know if this was a gaffe, or what he genuinely believes, but even if it is what he genuinely believes, it’s still a gaffe. To even so much as entertain the idea the humans have in some way, any way, contributed to climate change is heretical to the Right Wing. Possibly even more so than giving people healthcare.

Expect Boss Limbaugh’s head to explode and Mitt Romney to walk-back his statements by Monday afternoon.

Steve Benen smacked Romney and Huntsman down this morning, saying they both claim to acknowledge the problem of climate change but oppose meaningful efforts to deal with it.

I’d mark Romney 3½ out of 10 on this if I graded on a (generous) curve (comparing him to his Republican brethren), but he really deserves a 2 or a 1½. And this is the Rs’ serious candidate?

I have the strange feeling that if Romney was president he would turn out to be more liberal than Obama.

Tax hikes for the rich and corporate tax loopholes closed.

I never in a million years would have thought that Obama would keep the Bush tax cuts, increase our police state while increasing drone strikes and expanding our secret prisons in Afghanistan.

    Anythings possible.

I can’t tell if this is a serious comment or not.

        I think it’s serious, unfortunately.
