Clarence Clemons, 1942-2011

I was never a huge Springsteen fan, but this is one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded, and Clemons is the musical centerpiece.

For what it’s worth, I’ve always thought of Bruce Springsteen as a far better songwriter than he is a singer/musician/showman (the Mavericks’ cover of “All That Heaven Will Allow” [on What a Crying Shame] or, even better, Emmylou Harris’s cover of “Racing in the Streets” [on Last Date] will send chills down your spine). More importantly, he has always surrounded himself with first-class talent and, from what I’ve read, treats them well—a class act, in other words.

Clarence Clemons was a first-class talent. He will be greatly missed by everyone who loves music.
