Doof Quote of the Day

“The immigrants of the past, they had to literally and figuratively stand in line and follow rules to become U.S. citizens. I’d like to see that continue. And unfortunately, the DREAM Act kind of usurps that-the system that is a legal system to make sure that immigrants who want to be here legally, working hard, producing and supplying revenue and resources for their families, that they’re able to do that right and legally. Unfortunately, the DREAM Act doesn’t accomplish that.” Sarah Palin at Ellis Island

Sarah Palin obviously has no idea what the DREAM Act is all about. Obviously. Obviously. Obviously. ThinkProgress explains:

Actually, the DREAM Act aims to accomplish precisely what Palin described. Under the DREAM Act bill that Republicans killed last December, applicants would have had to go through a rigorous process of background checks, in addition to paying taxes, learning English, and either serving in the military or attending college. They would have then received a “conditional nonimmigrant” status and would be required to “stand in line” for ten years before being granted legal immigrant status. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the same bill would reduce the deficit by $1.4 billion over ten years.

So why is Sarah Palin against this? Because it’s a great idea and it reduces the deficit. Sarah Palin clearly hates both of those things: good ideas and deficit reduction.

Also, too, she is completely wrong about immigrants in the past having to stand in line. Ellis Island didn’t exist until the late 1800′s. I can give one very important example of how wrong she is. The Great Famine in Ireland occurred from 1845 to 1852 and millions of Irish ILLEGAL immigrants came to the U.S. and arrived through any number of ports from New York to New Orleans, not to mention over land from Canada.

One of them was one of my Irish ancestors from Limerick. He came over as a 15 year old by himself (his two older siblings were already here, illegally). He was here illegally until after The Civil War when Pres. Lincoln granted citizenship (AMNESTY by a Republican President, YIKES!!!!) to any soldiers who fought in the War.

This is only ONE example out of millions…..Palin is an idiot who doesn’t understand even the most basic American history.

Great Post! A cursory look at the history of US immigration in general and Ellis Island in particular, would reveal findings that would prevent one from making the statements Palin has made. But obviously she has a disdain for facts and is committed to making any baseless, fact-less, inane assertion that she chooses.

Personally, I believe she thought the opening scenes in “Godfather II ” were the way it always was. I find it quite fitting that she is the hero of the fifth grade mentality of a small part of our country. Find me one , just one intelligent Republican who still sings her praise.

Interesting. Usually the complaints I hear about the DREAM Act boil down to its being insufficiently punitive.

  • holyreality

Apparently anything that does not forcibly deport, preferably in medieval conditions, these “illegals” back to whatever shithole “they” came from, is to be considered amnesty, a concept lower than gay marriage.

  • eljefejeff

I think we can add ‘immigrants’ to the list of things she hates.

  • ElayneB

She clearly skipped the visitor center at Ellis Island.

I’m glad all those immigrants are working hard and producing for this nation. So just what does Sarah Palin produce besides bullsh!t? Huff Post had a picture of her in NYC wearing a Jewish Star of David pendant. Just who does she think she is? She has no sympathy for Jewish immigrants or any immigrants. In fact she is a Christian Dominionist who believes that all must convert or be killed.

Sarah Palin is a pandering ignoramus, randomly stringing together keywords scribbled on her palm: Freedom, America, prosperity, patriotic, founding principles, exceptionalism…salt and peppering them through contorted structures littered with misplaced articles and prepositions, and all delivered with an arrogant, dismissive sincerity possessed by beauty pageant phonies the world over who have learned that content is always second to a big smile, a sly wink and the appearance of confidence.
She has never done anything. Over and over again, she has simply said she could, and then later either insisted that she did (in stone contradiction of all facts and evidence) or blamed conspiring enemies for preventing her from having done so (in stone contradiction of all facts and evidence).
And through it all, she just keeps feeding stupid, shallow people exactly what they want – June Cleaver crossed with “We sure can if we just rely on that great American can do spirit” while behind the mask lurks the bastard spawn of Joan Crawford and Machiavelli, ready to jam a sharpened crucifix right into the heart of America if it will get her a half-step closer to all the things she knows she deserves because she’s better, smarter and right…and she doesn’t need to “know things” to BE better, smarter and right.
Her Mel Gibson moment looms. Sooner or later, a hot microphone will catch her muttering something so utterly reprehensible and so perfectly revealing that nothing will save her. And while her personal destruction will stoke my schadenfreude to almost Olympian heights, what will be better than that will be the excuses drooled out by her supporters; the cognitive dissonance as the truth of the degree to which they’ve all been taken becomes inescapable; the hollow look on their faces, like the child who gets up to pee on Christmas Eve and catches Daddy eating Santa’s cookies.

My greatest wish is that you experience paroxysms of schadenfreude in the near future, Avi.

This woman is an offense to all that is right and true in the world, and I hope her comeuppance will be as public as it is devastating.

In other news, Palin apparently thinks Paul Revere’s ride was about the 2nd Amendment:

I don’t think I like the part of the DREAM Act that requires learning English…Maybe she, not being too well versed in the English language, doesn’t like that part of it either…
