We Ignore Her At Our Own Peril

Why is the Paul Revere thing important and why am I continuing to cover Sarah Palin here?

While it’s potentially increasing her visibility to write about her (visibility to all nine readers here), and while it’s potentially taking the place of a more important topic, it’s crucial to hold public figures accountable and to, whenever possible, expose their flaws so that they will be less likely to attain more power.

A character as charismatic and inexplicably popular as Sarah Palin requires ongoing vigilance and criticism from people like you and me so that she’s never able to successfully achieve a level of leadership whereby she can actually make decisions of national importance.

Yes, she makes it easy. Yes, she’s less influential now than she was two years ago. And so it seems puerile to harp on her. But if we were to leave her alone and let her continue along her present course, who knows what could happen given her delusional, narcissistic ambitions. I still believe that without accountability — without a loud blitz of ridicule, Palin could be electable to some sort of national post.

As for the Paul Revere video, it’s such a perfect storm of her ignorance, her lack of humility, and especially her inability to grasp even the most basic of concepts that it’s worth seriously underlining as a means of achieving the aforementioned mission. So we’re beating it to death. Good. If we call enough attention to it, then it’ll surely seep into the general electorate. Mission accomplished.

I’ve written this numerous times, but it bears repeating. We ignore these people (Glenn Beck, Palin, Bachmann, Hannity, Limbaugh, tea party, etc) at our own peril.

did you see the Daily Show bit w/ John Oliver on the “Palin Bus” last night ?? he actually got to ask SP a question….”excuse me , where’s the Bus” and she answered him …I was rolling on the floor blowing PBR out of my nose and ears .

Stewart nailed it on the reason she is so reviled: not the stupid word salad, but the doubling down on stupid and insisting she was correct in the face of facts. Even that weasel wallace couldn’t keep a straight face as he was pitching the softball.

Regarding Oliver’s question, I wasn’t sure that was her – nice TLC shirt (makes me wonder if this tour is being filmed for another un-reality show). I couldn’t make out her whole answer to the bus question. Did she say she was going to take an SUV to the bus?

I think it WAS her! Her answer to “Where is the bus?”: “Oh it’s a couple of miles away, so we’re taking an SUV.”

        HA!

Well Bob, your work on this mission is exemplary! A new Washington Post poll shows that 2/3 of Americans say they would “definitely NOT “vote for her and and 42% of Republicans wouldn’t vote for her either. Keep up the good work!

Just a thought. She said that Revere rode around ringing bells, firing warning shots to let the British Army know that the colonists had guns. Wouldn’t that mean that Revere was likely a British spy?

You must have gotten more emails.

    Ignore them. You nailed it.

Yes. She has been called “an ignorant demagogue” ; I think it was on the Chris Mathews show; like all demagogues, she is dangerous. It is not enough to mock and ridicule her, she should be called out at every turn.

Where is Joe “just the facts Ma’am” Friday when we need him? Obviously Sarah Palin can’t get her facts straight. Paul Revere was a silversmith not a soldier. If he did fire his muzzleloading pistol he would have had to stop several times to “reload.” Not to mention that the British would have been alerted to the fact that someone was riding around on a horse in the middle of the night warning people.

People like Sarah and Bachmann obviously are so media hungry while lacking any coherent political philosophy that they will say anything they think their followers want to hear. There is a psychobabble term for this. It’s called “guruism.” Basically these people are charlatans and mountebanks. A more modern term is con artist.

What happened to your weekly Huffington Post column, Bob?

It had a little more than nine readers, if I recall correctly.

She’s a “white” woman, moderately attractive for her age, and a blowhard Republicon knows how to tease, so the Con establishment protect her like a porcelain doll from Walmart sitting on a dusty coffee table.

Palin’s nonsense is not the real problem. Her rabid base of white knights aren’t, either. The real problem is the “lamestream media” that follows her around in the hopes that something sensational will happen. She makes them all look like the fools they are as they cover for her (and the GOP’s) public displays of intellectual wankery. It’s these phony attempts at “balancing” political discussions put on by our media figures that is tearing America apart at the seams. “Balance” does not work when the middle is skewed. I recall numerous swine media figures warning us all – but President Obama, specifically – that America is a “center-right country.” That, and the bullshit about “Honeymoon periods” (used by the swine to time exactly when it was necessary to criticize the president over trifles) were the signs that this president would never be treated fairly in the media circle. It’s the same as it was during the Democratic primary, and the general election. The nonsense will be repeated next year in service to Willard. I, for one, will do my best to ignore to Con puffery that will take place next year by the corporate media.

Rachel has actually touched on what may come on the show on numerous occasions i.e. never asking Mitt about the dreaded Ryan Plan. That is just a taste of the bullshit we’re about to witness. Be prepared, folks. Never mind what Palin and the other bozos are going to be doing. Settle on what the swine are swilling in order to undermine the incumbent.
