Debt ceiling increases by president. Why did Ronald Reagan hate America?

I still can’t believe the Republicans are getting away with this reckless nonsense.

“I still can’t believe the Republicans are getting away with this reckless nonsense.”

Well Bob….when you have a media infrastructure that basically carries the water for them….

….When you have a party like the Republicans who know how to “work the refs” and are very good at putting out bulls**t memes that stick in people’s minds…

….When you have some Democrats who do not know how to return fire (and no, President Obama is NOT one of these)….

….And when you have some on the Left like the Firebaggers who are more interested in attacking Democrats and do not have much in the way of a media infrastructure and are too busy shopping around the “Both parties are the same!” meme and who have forgotten that instant change does not happen in American politics–and who display an amazing cluelessness about how deep the Republican feelers have spread into political body….

….I guess that’s how the Republicans can get away with it.

Just saying….but if I’m wrong, then I await correction.

Nice job SD. I am appalled by the fact that the msm treats these asinine baggers as serious politicians. MSMBC is using them as comedians.

Why don’t these “hosts” treat them like the idiots they are? At least challenge them and their stupidity….

It’s a bleak day for this presidency, and really in American history, as we’ve now embarked on a path that’s very likely to lead to huge cuts in entitlement programs, the domestic budget, and more or less everything every Democrat in Washington (except, apparently, one) wakes up to fight for every day.

    • Dorothy Rissman

Lonnie, I think we should not let rumors be facts. We need to wait and see. All of the dems are behind this “play”. It looks like Pelosi and the dems in the house will vote for this proposal. I think we are seeing the dems outplay the repugs. Hold off a bit until we know more.

The 14th may still be in play. I just read that many repugs in the Senate will not vote for it. I can understand being upset. I am terribly worried about all of this myself. Again, hold on.

The President called this shit early into his term — he told the GOP that if they continued to play Opposite Day on every issue that they would paint themselves into a corner…that if they only said “HELL NO” to everything, there would come a day when they would have to be able to say “Yes” but cannot

    Here we are.

It’s unfathomable, really. These people have NO business being anywhere even NEAR a governing body.

      • Scopedog

Yep. They sure as hell don’t.

Next year, we MUST make sure that a good chunk of them are booted the hell and elect those who can actually show some skills at governing. No more “I’m staying home to send a message!” or “I’m voting third party because both parties are all the same!!” nonsense–we need to focus on these jokers and get them the hell out.

For over thirty years, the Republican Party, as it is now, has shown that it cannot govern. How much more proof is needed?

I refuse to get in to this “bleak day” crap YET.

I still firmly believe that Pres. Obama has a back-up plan. I will continue to believe that until August 2, midnight.

Adding……..I only wish that part of that plan could include the arrest of House Republicans for treason.

    Yes, treason.

Adding again………..I slept late and was unaware of the deal being brokered between Obama and the Repubs. I would not count on Republicans in the House (aka teabagging buffoons) passing anything.

    • MarshallLucky

And of course it’s a hideous deal, with triggers that ensure we’ll be going through this same humiliating circus in the heart of election season next year. Not only have the Republicans succeeded in mainstreaming their government-destroying agenda despite the fact that the public doesn’t support it, they’re also about to get the holy grail – a crisis club to hold over Obama’s head during election season.

      • http://www.politicalruminations.com/ nicole

I believe that you’re exaggerating, Marshall. We really should leave that to the republicans.

Adding…….there will not be another debt ceiling thing in 2012, as you just stated.
Jake Tapper, in the article linked to in Ashby’s post, specifically states that there will not.

I think all that arms for drugs stuff in the reagan years raised our debt, especailly when you factor in the amount of crime the followed the CIA toting in all that cocaine in the late 80s.

  • Dan_in_DE

Who in God’s name had the gall, to let the debt ceiling cat out of it’s proverbial bag?

Ah, I should have known. It was Reagan!

    • Dan_in_DE

*holds fist in the air — like Colbert screaming “MANILOW!”

The real misleading thing on this graph is Bush Sr. It looks like he didn’t raise it that much, but when you consider he only had 1 term then he did a lot!

  • Brutlyhonest

Regardless of any other outcome, there is another win for the rwnj’s manipulation of the discourse: All sides calling programs people pay in to, like medicare and social security, entitlements.

  • trgahan

Reagan didn’t hate America…he needed all that money to singal handed defeat the USSR! Right?

  • dildenusa

“Why did Ronald Reagan hate America?”

Because he followed a shithead athiest and anarchist named Ayn Rand.
