Thank You, Chris Hayes

Chris Hayes on MSNBC last night putting the Casey Anthony coverage into proper perspective.

Amen. I still don’t know why this trial received so much coverage. Casey Anthony is of no consequence. Her fate means nothing to the betterment of the nation — in any way. There are thousands of corporate and political criminals dancing between the rain drops at this very moment, getting away with murder. Destroying the American dream, raping the economy and quite literally poisoning all of us. This doesn’t get an hour long special on MSNBC, as the Anthony verdict received last night. This doesn’t spark the nightly ire of Nancy Grace. The news media ought to be ashamed of itself. One of many recent dark days for the modern press. Disgusting.

    Good video, thanks Bob.

Imagine a world where this country gave the same amount of attention and resources to covering the disappearance and death of non-white people. That would be new too. I wrote on my blog this morning about the murder of Brisenia Flores, an innocent 9 year old, in Arizona. I have yet to hear a single story about it even in our local news. If it wasn’t for bloggers and independent free news sources, I wouldn’t know anything about it. Brisenia was killed by a minute man member–you know the wingnuts who illegally patrol the border. So there is a national angle to the story but no one seems to be talking about it. What’s another dead brown girl, right?

We need to save our outrage for distractions.

Stories of modern day brownshirts must fly under the radar.

I think the mass hysteria over dead little girls first proved successful with Jon-Benet Ramsey. OJ was a celebrity, but Jon-Benet was perfectly a nobody that became a somebody with her death.

One death is a tragedy, one million a statistic.

Well, look at the pattern there…Jon Benet, little blond white child, Holloway disappearance teenaged blond white girl, Nicole Simpson, grown white blond woman, Caylee Anthony, little light brown white child…..

The MSM can’t say it was because their stories weren’t both horrible train wrecks. Shawna Forde, the former Minutemen member convicted of the premeditated murders said:

“people shouldn’t deal drugs if they have kids”

There are tons of websites out there, which I refuse to link to, claiming that we shouldn’t give a damn because they were Mexican and her father was accused of dealing drugs. As if their lives were any less valuable than any other human beings. No, these wingnuts want justice for Shawna. They are the kind of people who want justice for Caylee Anthony too. But the fact that her mother was a piece of white trash doesn’t disqualify Caylee from victimhood so why should it disqualify Brisenia?

It doesn’t. Real American patriots want justice for all children regardless of their family origins and the color of their skin.

Nailed it. Black children are abducted and are killed every day and not a peep from the media.

Glad to say I watched and read absolutely nothing on this, same with OJ or any other trial which concerns me in no way whatsoever.

Here is irony: I tivo Rachel Maddow, but not O’Donnell, because I don’t like him. I love Chris Hayes, however.

Anyway, at the beginning of the taped Maddow episode, I see she is thanking him for summing up her thoughts so well. So I tell Tivo to record the repeat LAST WORD episode that will air at some ungodly hour, as I was interested in seeing/hearing Hayes, thinking that it will crystallize what I’m thinking as well.

This morning, over breakfast, I go to look at it. But MSNBC has not shown the re-broadcast. It, instead, is airing an hour long tabloid look at the Casey Anthony trial, with all the titillating details and images.

This is sort of a neat and sad illustration of the essential problem.

    Dear GAP:

You sell too many jeans. There are more important articles of clothing you could be selling, like winter coats and shoes.

Had this discussion yesterday. You know how we make this go away? Stop watching. I’m hardly going to blame a business for delivering what its customers want.

Thanks for sharing this. I was watching The Last Word until Glenn Greenwald made an appearance for his hourly Obama bomb throwing. I changed channels.

As I said on my blog, I have no opinion on the Casey Anthony case and verdict, but I find it ironic that Roger Clemens, whose trial starts today, has the possibility of serving more time for lying to Congress about taking steroids, than Anthony.

Right on, Bob. I’m with you.

I quit watching most TV news a couple of years ago. Once or twice a month I’ll watch a Rachel podcast and I’ll check out the network news when something really major is happening, but that’s it. I didn’t watch the Chris Hayes video because I have no fucking clue who Casey Anthony is and I’m pretty sure my life is better for it.
