Headline of the Day

The awful truth:

As Corporate Profits Rise, Workers’ Income Declines

But of course we should continue to give major corporations huge tax breaks at the peril of the economy. Someone explain how this is going to help when it hasn’t helped in at least 10 years. Tax cuts have coincided with record deficits, record debt, lower worker wages, stagnant middle class incomes, high unemployment, the loss of eight million jobs, a housing crisis, a massively deep recession, corporate scandals, and the possibility of another recession.

Tell me how tax cuts for the rich and corporations “work” again. Go ahead.

And yet. And yet. Doucheborogh, in his new populist mode, has awoken to the fact that there is huge wealth disparity in this effed up country. He realized this Mornin’!™ that this seemed to start at the “end of 2008″. Meaning, of course 2009. Meaning of course, Obama did it. Eugene fucking Robinson didn’t even push back.

Firebaggers think in such freakishly limited terms. A pity you have no idea what the hell you’re talking about.

      Simpleton.

      • freakishlystrong

I’m hardly a firebagger, nicole, I was simply amazed at the bullshit that passes for “informed comment” in this stupid country. The narrative that is; blame every thing on Obama and see what you can get away with. You would hope, with someone like Eugene Robinson that a “well, not really Joe, wealth disparity started about 30 years ago, under your boy, St. Ronnie”. Sadly, nope.

        • http://www.politicalruminations.com/ nicole

I apparently misread your post. Apologies. Bad day.

  • jcajca

Ridiculous. LONDON IS BURNING, BUT WE ARE MELTING!! Not long before disaffected, unemployed/under-employed youth start up here, is it?

  • incredulous72

    Again, the Democratic Party should be screaming from the mountaintops;

“THIS TRICKLE DOWN SHIT DOESN’T WORK!!! WE KNOW THIS BECAUSE WE’VE BEEN LIVING IT FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS!!!”

We as a party must be a lot more vocal and a lot louder and a lot more harmonious (above the din of the FBs) with our messaging.

    • MrDHalen

I think Democrats have been saying that for years, but that is not in the media’s interest to replay the message. Look at the Sunday show guest bookings over the last decade; 3 Republicans to 1 Democrat on average. (Guessing)

Think of political policy like stocks, right now, a lot of people are buying the “Greed is Good” toxic crap the GOP is selling. Until voters wake up and stop investing so much political capital in greed, we are stuck on this toxic path.

      • incredulous72

We (the Democratic Party) may have been saying this for years, but we haven’t been forceful with it and we damn sure haven’t been harmonious (Kennedy vs. Carter, Blue Dog Dems vs. Party Dems, Hillary supporters vs. Barack supporters)

When we allow republicans to rewrite history regarding the causes and effects of how this country became great, we ARE NOT being loud enough, forceful enough, or harmonious enough in our narrative. Sure, there are other factors at play (the greed is good philosophy, racism and the now for profit corporate media), however, we can overcome these issues when we band together, decide on common goals and forcefully and loudly get that message out there. The sticking point obviously are the goals (what should be done first) and our primary goal right now is to get back a super majority in both houses of Congress (with moderate to progressive Dems of course) and getting President Obama re-elected.

Express what the alternative to this primary goal would be and there should be no issue that we cannot get over.

        • MrDHalen

It seems one of the major obstacles that get in the way of strict Democratic messaging, is our ability to use independent thought. We’re not drones like the Republicans and we are capable of using logic. We sift through multiple sources and form our own opinions. Republicans tune into a few propagandist and repeat what they have been instructed to repeat word for word.

I’m all for better messaging, but I think it’s harder for Dems because we listen to a question, then use our brains to form an answer to that question. Republicans just spout talking points, because they don’t care about the question or you; only their selfish concern at that moment.

I fault those who don’t bother exercise their civic duty and be apart of their democracy. If more people payed attention to politics, the GOP would be toast.

  • MrDHalen

What is also sad is that we watch as citizens in the Middle East who are fighting and clawing for democracy and most American citizens have completely checked out on theirs. Greed is tearing this country apart and it feels like it’s winning.

We are living in the Twilight Zone episode of “The monsters are due on Maple Street”; but the aliens on the hill are the super rich and the middle class and poor are the people on the street.

    • Lexamich

That episode stands as one of my favorites, along with To Serve Man.

Ooh, and that one about the people in the room. Damn, I’m remembering it vaguely. There was a clown, a ballerina, I believe a military person, and a few others. They were all trying to find out how they got in the room together. As with many Twilight Zones, the ending was killer, and messed my head up when I was very young. I’d hate to spoil it for those that haven’t seen it, but think about what you’re buying for your kids.

With that said, I picture that if the years 2000-2011 were within a Twilight Zone bit, all Republicon con-servative actions perpetrated on the nation are all revealed to be a 5-minute long, nationwide collective hallucination induced by a mischievous child telepath from the planet Jupiter. The closing line would be, “Even a child from another planet knows a good Republicon prank when it sees one…in the Twilight Zone.”

      I mean, seriously!

“Freedom” Fries, VP Sarah Palin, TEA Party, and President Bachmann.

Damn it, when will this episode end?!

      • MrDHalen

The hilarity and absurdness makes it seem so much like an episode of Twilight Zone. When you watch old films, they had such high hopes for what our society would be like today. We’ve done a decent job with the technology, but our social atmosphere still carries a lot of the same old problems. Our national politics have become a pathetic joke and a disgrace to the people who died to create it.

Theory: “Only works in the land of Middle Earth, Unicorns and Fairies”

When you lower taxes for the job creators, they take the extra money and hire new employees. The new employees new found spending power offsets the revenues lost by the tax cuts to the job creators by increasing the overall revenue that the country takes in.

    Reality: “United States 2011″

When you lower taxes for the job creators, those corporate scumbags pocket the extra money, layoff workers, and those lucky to remain are overworked. The job creators spend their time trying to keep overhead down, by continuing to lay off employees. the job creators then go on Fox News and constantly bitch that there isn’t a consumer demand for their product. TeaHobbits arrive from middle earth yelling illiterate talking points about taking the country back from the black man that stole the government. The economy goes in the tank because it is not taking in enough revenue, yet somehow the TeaHobbits are convinced the economy is tanked due to over spending. Using logic that only works in Middle Earth, the TeaHobbits lobby for fixing the deficit by cutting out programs that hurt themselves, refusing to add new revenues and do whatever is necessary to protect the job creators who are using them as pawns.

We (Liberals) need to take over a major television network, and lay the whole damn fucking mess out in front of the American people so that they know what we know, and what our fourth estate has NOT FUCKING TOLD THEM.

Without this awareness, we are well and truly screwed.

  • mattpd

the republicans want to shrink the middle class so small that they can drown it in a bathtub.. and they are.

  • holyreality

Tax cuts for the rich do not work, that is how “they work”.

Baltimore Catechism for Catholic children has nothing on teabaggers who recite the lie about tax cuts=increased revenue, and jobs.

The sooner we can get through to some of the more brainwave functional members, the sooner we can begin to repair their damage.

  • incredulous72

Reid just appointed Kerry (D-MA), Murray (D-WA) and Baucus (D-MT) to the “SuperCongress” committee.

    UN . . . REAL.
