Worst Person in the World

Forbes columnist Bill Flax for recommending Jim Crow poll taxes on voters.

His requirements for voting:

A basic literacy assessment;

A non-partisan test ensuring competency of basic constitutional principles;

A stake in the community reflected by property, employment or other measures;

Restrict the franchise to lessen conflicts of interest regarding state employees, lobbyists, contractors, etc.;

Surrender one’s voting privileges when seeking public assistance.

Even though several of these qualifications would prevent tea party people from voting, this is clearly Jim Crow. Tea party people should be allowed to vote just like the rest of us.

    His reasoning for the list is even more dumbfounding, quote:

    “Before we devolve into a Third World dictatorship where the mob denies the liberties of losing minorities we ought to ponder several potential solutions.”

    I suppose in his world, rich white people who have all the power and all the money are the “losing minorities.” So we better suppress the majority of the country quickly so those vulnerable rich people aren’t eaten by the other 98%.

    In short – he’s an arrogant, clueless douchebag

      I’ll quibble with you on one point: he’s anything but clueless. This is the logical next step in the Republican efforts to restrict voting by people who tend not to vote for Republicans. I’m just surprised he was so open about it.

      (Personally, I’d name him Worst Borderline-Sentient Entity in the Universe.)

        “Worst Borderline-Sentient Entity in the Universe”

        You forgot to add Sociopathic to that…..

    To Ashby’s assessment that this poor excuse for an American is an arrogant, clueless douchebag, I would add “racist, classist f-ck.” How much more apparent must it be that the Republican Party is little more than a mob of entitled, contemptuous, bigoted and corrupt assholes before the pathetic 30% of voters who still approve of them realize the scum they’re emulating and supporting despise them and want to wipe them out?

    This title should actually go to those two white boys from Mississippi who beat a man to death because of his skin color. They also ran him over with their 4-WD pickup while two girls sat in the truck watching. Sorry for the digression Bob.

    well, I think I found my scumbag of the day! I don’t see anyone topping that until tomorrow when Fox loses their shit over the Wisconsin elections.

    “Surrender one’s voting privileges when seeking public assistance.”

    I am sure “public assistance” does not include corporate welfare and other tax deductions benefitting the rich.

    Aren’t these the same dudes claiming they know more about the consitution and history? Maybe they do and just want to return to the good ‘ol days when you could keep “those people” down.

    The only thing I can think of when I read this @$$hole’s nonsense is that classic line from the 1982 version of THE THING:

    “…You gotta be f*@%ing kidding!”

    The jerks who will agree with this jackass have to be stopped. It has to be done next year–no ifs, ands, or buts.

    A stake in the community reflected by property, employment or other measures

    I have a stake in my community because I fucking live there. Reminds me of Judson Phillips, founder of Tea Party Nation, advocating limiting the franchise to those who own property since they allegedly have a greater stake in the community. My first reaction: Try telling that to some kid returning from his third or fourth tour in Iraq or Afghanistan who doesn’t own property. I served 21 years in the Army and own no property. I think I could make a pretty good case that I have a greater stake in my community than either Judson Phillips or Bill Flax (good name for him, incidentally).

    A basic literacy assessment;

    A non-partisan test ensuring competency of basic constitutional principles

    Each of these bullet points by themselves would exclude a goodly number of Tea Partiers but taken together, they may well restrict the franchise to nearly everyone in that movement.

    What a dick.

  • JoyP

    I was thinking along the same lines when you got to the part about the Tea Party also being disqualified to vote based on these requirements, especially the part about basic constitutional principles. Most high school kids can’t even answer the basic questions about the Constitution. You know who can? Brand new American citizens who have to take a very difficult test about it. It actually scares me how stupid our children are getting. When you don’t/can’t teach the correct history, you get idiots.

    It would have been simpler for Flax to write

    Here’s the ballot paper I know there’s only one name on the sheet but I have the gun and you have the pen.

    Flax’s epitaph – Here ‘lies’ another right wing nut that shrivelled on the vine

    Are you effing kidding me?!?!?! Ummm…Mr. Flax…is Social Security or Medicare “Public Assistance”? If so , then guess what, 99% of people over 65 aren’t going to vote, regardless of any property they own, they are on Medicare and also on SS, hence public assistance.

    That takes care of old scared white people afraid of the ‘other’ in the WH.

    Basic literacy assessment…. I’ve known more white people that couldn’t read, and coincidentally they were conservative and feared a lot of “non-white” things…

    “non-partisan test ensuring competency of basic constitutional principles” – Well, that keeps Sarah Palin and a lot of others on the right that confuse the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence from voting…

    “stake in the community reflected by property, employment or other measures” – Ummm my brother a Marine Corps lifer of 20+ years has no home mortgage Mr. Flax…. Besides, he’s gone out of the country several times of the course of a presidential term, or gone all together for years. why should we let him vote?

    It’s awesome that the same people that consider themselves real ‘mericans, patriots, and victims minorities are the ones that believe they only provide tangible value in our society and should be able to make decisions for the majority.

    Mr. Flax, pull your head out of your ass….we already have a representative democracy (and we see how well that works), we not need representative voting blocks as well.

    Wow, it seems that each week the far right keeps cutting to the heart of the issue. Like the Nebraska AG, all of this is really about a bunch of white people who are scared shitless over what the election of a black guy named Obama is going to mean for minorities in America. So they demand we restrict their rights as much as possible (as the dedicated libertarians they are) and make sure a minority doesn’t achieve that office again.

    I can’t believe someone can actually be employed by a national magazine like Forbes to rehash 19th century ideas.

  • fyllo87

    The Right wing seems to think they can only win elections by restricting voting rights to Americans like themselves!
