In other news, House Majority Shitkicker Eric Cantor threw cold water on the president’s proposal for a national infrastructure bank today by comparing it to a “Fannie and Freddie of roads and bridges,” and Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina proposed creating a federal, nationwide voter ID law even though the voter ID law passed in his home state is still under investigation by the Department of Justice.

    The president is kicking some ass tonight. And he showed more anger (for approx the first 3rd of the speech) than I’ve ever seen from him publicly. I think that’s a good thing.

    If these morons refuse to pass this plan, we need to hammer on that fact all the way until Nov 2012.

      Did you notice how often he said “pass this now?”

      I loved the speech, but I never met an Obama speech I didn’t like. I do, however, think it was a political speech, kind of drawing out the terms of the campaign. At this point I don’t think it really matters whether the GOP wants to cooperate or not.

        It actually got kinda funny to hear him say “pass this bill” so many times. Hell, it made me giggle. I agree with Nicole in that I feel the president gave a kick-ass speech tonight.

        Oh yeah, football. I’m a diehard Bears fan. I don’t know if I can bear a Green Bay game yet. :-)

    It’s time for the republicans to start acting like adults. If they give the President the finger on this jobs program, they can all kiss their cushy seats in Washington goodbye.

    There was something for everyone in that speech. I especially liked the tax cut to businesses that will hire new employees that have been out of work for 6 months or longer. No more discriminating against the unemployed.

    Couple things about the speech.

    The First Lady looked disgusted having to occupy a room full of slimy right wing Republicans waiting for that “You Lie” moment. I felt disgusted for her and every single Republican in that room represents the worst in America and should give back their participation trophies. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a first lady wear the face of concern for her husband, for her country, so sincerely.

    The president’s plan is a crowbar unseizing the engine of the American economy after Republicans used all the oil fucking Eric Cantor’s ass.

      I can imagine how incredibly hard it must be for her to not speak out against the blatant disrespect that her husband goes through not just day to day, but hour to hour. As First Lady, she just has to suck it up like he does.

      But judging that expression she had on her face tonight, I’m no mindreader, but I guarantee you I know what she was thinking . . . and I agree. ;-)

          I bet she could take the paint off the wall with words alone. And it probably does suck to have to watch the man she loves put up with so much disrespect. I wouldn’t be able to restrain myself like she does. She and Pres. Obama are light years more mature than those a-holes in Congress.

      I wasn’t at all surprised to hear the administration was worried about a coup (at the time I wondered if they were taking that possibility into consideration), but I was surprised fucking furious at how the emoprogs twisted it to make the Pres the poor leader rather than holding the damn fascists responsible.

        I actually remember echoing murmurs at the time raising the idea that Republicans would enlist Gen. Petraeus to carry it out.

        Adding, they all speak in terms of overthrowing the government and replacing it with Hitler.

        Violent imagery, conspiracy to overthrow unions, regulations, public schools, healthcare reform, financial reform, social security, medicare.

        The seeds are already there.

    I do enjoy listening to President Obama speechifying the public. He has a reasonable and logical approach. Intelligent people who know what their interests require can accept these logical reasonable proposals.

    But who are we kidding?

    The GOPers will just slap him about the head while Boehner pins a kick me sign on his back.

    And now starts the weeks of right wing pundit hitmen filling the airwaves (cause the MSM doesn’t want to appear bias) with how the President’s proposal will never work until they find a meme that sticks and any momentum the President’s speech gave is gone. It is even hard for the President to do much when he’s faced with a 24/7 propaganda machine against him.

      Hell, not five minutes after the speech, CNN had on Alex Castellanos on setting up the first GOP response talking about how the GOP didn’t like being “lectured” to. As if the President’s tone was what mattered.

      I wish the DEM pundit had responded, “It isn’t about Congress’ egos! It’s about the economy, it’s about jobs dummy.”
