I Still Don't Think Romney Can Win

The Republicans are going to nominate someone else because this is ridiculous:

“I believe based on what I read that the world is getting warmer. And number two, I believe that humans contribute to that. I don’t know how much our contribution is to that, because I know that there have been periods of greater heat and warmth in the past but I believe we contribute to that. And so I think it’s important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may well be significant contributors to the climate change and the global warming that you’re seeing,” – Mitt Romney, June 3, 2011.

“My view is that we don’t know what’s causing climate change on this planet. And the idea of spending trillions and trillions of dollars to try to reduce CO2 emissions is not the right course for us,” – Mitt Romney, October 27.

Yes, he’s toting the party line now about the climate crisis. But his obviously flip-flopping along with his healthcare reform vulnerability will ultimately lead primary voters to another candidate. Will it be Cain or Perry? I still believe Perry will be back.

I will be shocked if anyone ever, at anytime, asks Mittens about this (or any of his other flip-flops) at a time/place where he’ll have to answer. I don’t understand why no “journalist” doing an interview with him doesn’t bring this kind of thing up.
It’s one thing to be a moron and have a, ahem, certain tax plan, and stick by your guns. I can at least respect you for having an opinion/plan and standing by it (no matter how stupid it actually is). But, to constantly and continually change your position on pretty much everything just makes you look worse.
How does anyone take him seriously? Does anyone take him seriously might be the better question.

Exactly what I was going to say how can anyone take someone like that seriously. Maybe I haven’t been paying attention to politics long enough but seeing how much he flips like that the way it is so obvious it blows my mind.

    • Obama_FTW

He is doing what McCain did in 07/08 and trading in his rationality for GOP party line rhetoric. He should drop out, switch parties and then openly embrace his prefrontal cortex once again.

Then Romney could lose the nominations of two parties in one election cycle. (That might be a Guinness record.)

  • Obama_FTW

Poor guy…how much for his rational side will he disassociate himself with in order to try and court the irrational republican vote? He really should just drop out before he loses more of his dignity kowtowing to the wacky base.

The other thing working against Mittens is the magic underwear. People seem to be avoiding the Mormon issue, but it is still a major factor in why his support among GOP voters won’t budge above 23%. He may be the putative front runner, but when three out of four republicans prefer someone else, he still has a tall mountain to climb.

But at this point, I have doubts about whether Perry can stage a comeback. Can his deep campaign coffers help him overcome his lousy debate performance? I don’t know. He’s hit just about rock bottom in the polls, so I suppose he’s got no where to go but up at this point?

Cain? Again, I can’t see it happening. Despite his current high polling numbers, I have a hard time seeing him on the GOP ticket. Like Palin, he still doesn’t seem to seriously want to be president. He seems more interested in running for future speaking fees instead of office.

And then there’s everyone else. Bachmann is done. Gingrich and Santorum are jokes and both are probably running mostly to get a bigger contract with Fox. Huntsman has no chance and is probably hoping that a wave of sanity will overtake the GOP by 2016. Paul only has a chance in the delusional minds of his worshipers.

So, the conventional wisdom still says Mittens will get the nod. I don’t know. I get the feeling that so long as the GOP is holding out hope for the magical white knight candidate to emerge, Mittens will eventually fall by the wayside, clearing the only possible path for Perry to take the ticket.

Unlike the Purity Left though, they will still loyally vote for the last remaining -R no matter how much they despise him. I mean, there’s a black Islamo-Acorn Communofascist Kenyan Usurper in the White House after all. His removal trumps any ideological concerns the Republicans might have about their nominee.

I’m inclined to agree that we haven’t seen the last of Perry. He’s got a ton of money from the oil and gas industry to run negative ads, Cain’s 15 minutes are about up, and three-quarters of the GOP base loathes Romney. Since it’s too late for anyone else to get in, many of the disappointed Cainiacs will slide back to Perry — he’s really all they’ve got unless they want to listen to Newtie, and I think even most Republicans are not that far gone.

  • agrazingmoose

Romney believes whatever the polls tell him to believe.

Mitt, yes I am speaking to you, your daddy would be proud of you no matter what. Give it up.

Jeb Bush will swing in to save the Republicans at the convention.

    • D_C_Wilson

Gah. Could America possibly want another Bush in the White House?

      • bphoon

Some manage to take Perry seriously, don’t they?

      • ranger11

Not when they still blame W more for this economy than Obama.

    • ranger11

Too soon, too soon. Maybe in 2016.

      • CMiner

I think the serious Republican funders are sitting on the bulk of their money. After a campaign season of these chuckleheads, they’ll support Bush. Ever wonder why W and the rest of the family have been keeping such a low profile? If the party seems weary of the ridiculous, they’ll swoop in. If the economy still sucks, which it will, they’ll seize the opportunity.
