Forget that he worked for the Obama administration and believes in global warming. Huntsman’s penchant for clever metaphors is more than enough to keep Republicans from liking him.

His problem is, like nearly all conservatives, he’s just not funny, but he doesn’t realize it.

      FADE IN:

      EXT. VILLAGE – NIGHT

A MOB OF TEA PARTIERS, wearing tri-corn hats and waving torches and pitchforks, marches through the narrow streets. People pull their children inside and draw the blinds as the mob approaches.

The mob arrives in front of Jon Huntsman for President headquarters. They start shouting angrily.

      MOB
Global warming is a fraud! You worked for the usurper! Your metaphors are too clever! &c.

      TEA PARTIER
      (in the mob)
      Second Amendment remedies!

The crowd shushes him, continues shouting.

After a beat, TEA PARTIER 1 steps up and tries the door. Locked. He KNOCKS, peers through the window into the darkened office. He turns, shrugs.

The shouts fade out. The mob mills about for a long beat.

      TEA PARTIER 2
      Now what?

      TEA PARTIER 1
We could wait. The sign says the office will open tomorrow at eight.

      MURMURS of discontent.

Tea Partier 2 looks at his watch.

      TEA PARTIER 2
      Ah, rats. It’s almost ten.

      TEA PARTIER 3
Dang, Matlock’s on at ten, and it’s a good one tonight.

The mob rushes off. Tea Partier 1 RATTLES the door one more time. Still locked. He shrugs, hurries to catch up to the rest of the mob.

      BLACK OUT.

Not that any other GOTP candidate would believe a weather vane because, y’know, that’s science.

If your perfectly lubricated weather vane points North for more than 4 hours, call your doctor

  • Brutlyhonest

Was he taking a not-so-subtle swipe at santorum?

Huntsman looks like a man who knows his lube.

Unless, of course, the answer is blowin’ in the wind.

The question should be, exactly how does one lubricate a weather vane? Normally, weather vanes are 30-40 feet off the ground and placed on a mountain or hilltop to get a better reading of the winds aloft. So is he talking about a weather vane at sea level? No matter how well a weather vane at sea level is lubricated, it won’t give a good reading since winds at sea level could be variable while 50 feet up they could be prevailing straight out of the east (China) for extended periods.

Obviously, Huntsman is a smart guy who accepts data gathered under scientific methods as fact, and Romney is a smart guy who did accept scientific fact a while back but is now singing a different tune while he panders to the tea party republic. And maybe word came down from the Koch Roaches that if Romney wants to be president and have scum bags like the Koch’s whispering in his ear he better toe the Koch line on human caused global climate change, which of course is to deny any cause and effect relationship between burning every last drop of oil, every last atom of natural gas, and every last piece of coal for energy to run the global Koch industrial complex. All this while American citizen grovel in the streets for a few crumbs left over from the Koch’s dinner as sea levels rise and weather patterns change much more quickly than in the past.

Is that an African or a European weather vane?

      European weather vanes are nonlubricatable!

  • missliberties

That must be from speaking the Chinese language for so long.

It’s a nice turn of phrase. You remember it for it’s oddity!

    • muselet

You’re right, it’s a great turn of phrase.

I see what he’s saying, but it is a weird metaphor.

    Fightin’ words!

    Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!

And in the time it takes to appreciate Huntsman’s non-threatening banter, he’s lost the non-threatening banter vote of Latter-day Saints.
