Note to Occupy Wall Street

President Obama isn’t your enemy.

If you’re going to attack D.C. enemies, focus with laser precision on K Street, the House Republicans and the Senate Republicans. Collectively, they’re hurting America and they’ve been doing it for 30-plus years beginning in the early 1980s when Reagan declared war on the middle class.

Try to focus on the people who are killing job creation and economic growth for the sake of scoring political points. Occupy Capitol Hill.

Thanks.

The Firebagger types are encouraging OWS to focus on the Pres to stop the police crackdowns. Perhaps they’d like him to declare martial law too. They are nothing if not predictable.

Nicole your link reminds me to inform Randi Rhodes listeners depending where you are and how your progressive station air these shows in order Randi Rhodes won’t be in today.

Filling in for Randi today is Nicole Sandler, so when ever you tuned in to listen to Randi you won’t go what the fuck is Nicole Sandler doing on?

So Randi fans your options are this listen to past shows of Bob and Chez, watch ESPN, read a book, play video games(Assassins’ Creed Revelations and Uncharted 3 for me) or do whatever you like because it’s going to be 3 hours of firebagging bullshit.

    • villemar

Ugh. Et tu, Shepard Fairey? What do they expect him to do, put on a parka and a rasta hat and a Guy Fawkes mask (lol that would go over really well politically) and jam out a drum circle? BTW I’m with Bill Maher on those stupid masks, they were new and menacing and cool three years ago when they went after Scientology, now they all look like Rip Taylor.

  • villemar

That’s why it’s important to permanently cede all three branches of government to the GOP for a generation, to punish Barack OHitlermba for not being a revolutionary marxist, like I hallucinated he promised. That’ll teach him!

I had a conversation with a young man at Occupy Chicago. He was holding a huge sign with all the reasons he was disenchanted with the president. Number one on his list was “Obama bailed out the corporations and doesn’t care about the people”. I tried really hard to ignore this sign, but…

When I asked this kid to explain which corporations he was angry had been bailed out, he could only say “the big corporations and the banks”. I told him the true story of my working in the retirement planning industry during the collapse of 2008. During the last two quarters of that year, I saw three different hospital clients lose over $100 million each from their participants’ accounts. I explained that these were real people that were losing their life savings, essentially watching it wash down the drain, and asked what was the president (Bush and Obama) supposed to do? I also pointed out the freakout the country did after the government let Lehman Brothers fail and the Dow dropped a gazillion points the following two days AND without government intervention who knows where or when that would have ended. This kid could only stare – he had absolutely no response. All he knew was the anger he felt at what he thought happened. I wonder how many other protesters are equally as uninformed and angry at everybody regardless of how much logic is contained within their anger.

    • http://www.politicalruminations.com/ nicole

These kids aren’t that uninformed. Unfortunately, the Firebaggers have made strong efforts to be the chosen ones to so inform OWS, and you know that they lie all damn day long. Check out FDL. They are in the thick of it.

      • Scopedog

What’s worse is that they warned that Obama should not even think of co-opting OWS….so of course, Moore, Hamsher, Greenwald, and the Firebaggers decided to do it.

President Obama is not the enemy. He has made mistakes, but he is at least trying to do something to fix the mess that was dropped in his lap. That’s the least that can be said for some of those who are part of OWS.

Man…can’t our side at least TRY to shoot straight and hit the right target?

    • DamnedLiberal

      Have you heard of “Iceland”?

      • ranger11

        No, Greenland.

  • mrbrink

Occupy Chicago has this on their website, under “Occupy Wall St. Grievances.”

    4. The End Of The Revolving Door

“The Obama administration was supposed to bring change and hope to our country, but instead, brought us into despair and insecurity. Those working in his administration are the very people whom we are fighting against. Those who enter Washington should not be representatives of the elites, but representatives of the people. One cannot simply enter an administration, reap its benefits, and simply exit.”

I’m sorry they feel this way. I see things differently.

You get your liberal legislation to the president’s desk, he’ll sign it. Elections matter.

    Go!

    • D_C_Wilson

That’s the thing that kills me about the firebaggers. They act like they expect Obama to just wave his magic wand and conjure up the votes to pass the legislation they want to see. Do they not understand that the GOP in Congress has collectively vowed to block everything and anything that Obama proposes? They should be out there pounding the pavement to get every member of the crazy caucus voted out instead of pissing and moaning about how Obama didn’t give them a pony.

      • JWheels

Another notable point is that the GOP has been habitually blocking his cabinet nominees. I mean do they really think if he had nominated extremely liberal people to head up treasury and other economic posts that they would’ve even been confirmed at all? Just look at what happened with Elizabeth Warren, it’s not like the president actually rules by fiat like the tea party if so afraid of, or like the firebaggers have wet dreams about.

  • JWheels

Given that one of the biggest grievances of Occupy is wealth inequality I imagine things will gradually move in the direction of Washington DC as the larger focus of the movement. I’m not part of it really nor do I speak for them, but it just seems to be the sensible solution. The radical left and firebaggers have been trying to move this movement their way since the beginning and I don’t think the more moderate voices have ceded to them.

  • MrDHalen

    Thanks for saying this Bob.

OWS, please don’t become a liberal purity cult.

    • Scopedog

“OWS, please don’t become a liberal purity cult.”

Dan, I hope it doesn’t happen….but I’m afraid that (in my view) it’s moving in that direction.

      • MrDHalen

I think the lack of real leadership is hurting the cause. I understand they don’t want leaders, but our society is built around leadership.

Movement is started and powered by the people, but the direction and steering is done by leaders who are chosen by the people.

I feel like they want the system to change, but don’t want to have anything to do with the people involved in the system; and turn them away because of that. If they want revolution, I don’t see it happening in the near future. (Another financial collapse; who knows.)

Also, if OWS wants to attack Democrats, they should start with the Conservadem enablers to the Republicans, rather than the President.

  • JWheels

Sometimes the more paranoid conspiracy minded part of my psyche makes me start to wonder what side some of the far left bloggers are playing for. I just sometimes find it so hard to believe that people can be against their own interests in such ridiculous ways. I don’t believe they really work for the other side, but sometimes it seems like they don’t work for their own side either. I hope the optimism that practicality is becoming a more dominant voice overall (EDIT: on the left, because we know it’s not dominant on the right) proves true.

    • dildenusa

“I don’t believe they really work for the other side, but sometimes it seems like they don’t work for their own side either.”

Absolutely correct. They are closet Randians with a paperback copy of Atlas Shrugged hidden in the corner of the bookcase. The only thing that keeps them from going totally over to the dark side is their own sense of self importance. Because if you are a true Randian, Hayaker, or disciple of the Austrian/Chicago School the only thing that matters to you is that there will always be someone you can look down on but then someone will always be looking down on you. Whereas if you are truely a libertarian socialist then your self importance doesn’t mean anything. The only thing that has meaning is justice and fairness.

  • miketothad

    Well done, Bob. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • DamnedLiberal

He’s just the guy whose staff comes from Wall Street, who bailed out Wall Street with virtually no conditions or requirements, extended the Bush tax cuts, caved repeatedly to Republicans, himself proposed cuts to Soc. Sec. & Medicare, continues to operate black prisons, is possibly more militaristic than Cheney, made closed-door deals with the health care & insurance industries, and whose campaign (like 2008′s) will be lavishly financed by Wall Street. IOW: Another right-leaning politician.

    • villemar

      Your indignation is trendy.

    • Alex0001

So that short little list of yours is everything the President has done so far? He hasn’t done a single good thing?
