The Rise of Ron Paul

Ron Paul has caught Gingrich in New Hampshire.

The poll of polls puts them now only 0.7 percent apart, basically a tie for second. The two most recent polls show Paul edging ahead. In a very independent and libertarian state, where independents can vote in the GOP primary, this could get interesting if Paul gets a boost from Iowa. Against Obama, Paul is now the second strongest candidate in the poll of polls, after Romney.

Maybe the racist newsletters are resonating with Republican voters. I wonder if Romney will claim he published racist newsletters in order to get a bump with the radical libertarian wing of the party.

The quicker this guy goes away the better off the Republicans will be to getting back to “normal” thus the better we all will be…I think that strong candidates in both parties does us best…unfortunately, Ron Paul has been a de-facto leader in driving the GOP towards “bad” in the past 4 years or so…It all scares me because anything is possible in elections…

Ron Paul for President, like true Libertarianism (not the idealized corporate welfare state that passes as Libertarian these days) sounds great on paper, but no one really wants either to become a reality. I suspect Paul’s recent raise is more about having a consistent message (racist or not) after a month of two flip flopping front runners.
But like everyone else is the clown car, if he becomes a front runner he won’t hold up to any real scrutiny.

Paul’s rise may also be due to the fact that it’s just his turn to move up the scoreboard since every GOP voter apparently hates Romney. So we’ve had spikes from Trump, Bachmann, Perry, Cain, Gingrich (a little Santorum movement) and now Paul. The only ones left are Huntsman (too normal… and too Romneyesque) and Buddy Roemer. Who? …Exactly.

Bear in mind that opinion snapshots always lag the news cycle. And pass the popcorn.

Good I hope he does win Iowa and NH. Out them all, closet stormfronters and firebaggers alike, bound together forever. If the mighty GOP establishment doesn’t finish him off, Obama will crush that crazy old coot and win every single electoral vote in the nation.
