Survival of the Fittest 1 Percent

In other news, 88,071 children were reportedly cut from the Medicaid rolls in Pennsylvania since August of 2011 because of stricter eligibility reviews. Also — if you have more than $2,000 in total assets, you’re no longer eligible to receive food stamps. Really.

WTF is going on in Pennsylvania?

Bob, that’s Alabama coming to Pennsylvania. And you thought it was already there between Pittsburgh and Philly! In fact, they’re just getting around to including Pennsylvania in the means-testing that Alabama invented. If you have two pennies to rub together, you don’t get Medicaid in this state. Owning a car or a home is a bar to enrollment. If you’re completely disabled for life and can never work again, your disability checks will make you ineligible for Medicaid.

But you know, under the ACA this all goes away in 2014. Kill the bill! Not good enough! Doing away with the means test is only about as awesome as doing away with poll taxes, but NO PUBLIC OPTION MEAH

Here in Illinois, my mom was just purged from Medicaid last week because they increased her SS benefits by $40 dollars.

She makes too much now to qualify for Medicaid… by $2 dollars.

    Neat trick.

She’s always said, “we’re poor, but we’re happy.”

She quotes the movie, “Breaking Away.”

But if she didn’t have Medicare as a fail safe, the free market, with her pre-existing conditions, would destroy her.

    We should totally privatize Medicare!

The only word that comes to mind is “fuck.”

Brink, I’m so sorry to hear that. Will your mom be okay?

It saddens and angers me to know that our children and our elderly are being put at risk because of the greed of a certain class of people.

Another big story here in PA is the cuts to education, shifting the money to charters and vouchers. Chester Upland school district is flat broke and will probably have to shut down. The staff and teachers are basically working for free at the moment to keep the students in school. Story made the Ed show on MSNBC the other night.
