House Republicans Commit to Keeping Women Down

Last week law student Sandra Fluke was denied the opportunity to speak by Darrell “Witch Hunt” Issa who instead opted for an all-male panel on birth-control. Minority leader Nancy Pelosi is now giving Fluke a chance to speak, but the Committee on House Administration will not allow cameras to cover it.

The Republican-controlled Committee on House Administration has denied a request to broadcast the testimony of Georgetown University Law student Sandra Fluke on the health reform law’s mandated coverage of contraceptives at a Democratic Steering and Policy Committee event. The event was organized by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in a bid to allow Fluke a second opportunity to speak on the issue after the young woman was barred from the all-male panel by Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) at last week’s House Oversight and Govenrment Reform Committee hearing. According to Pelosi’s office, this will be the first event in which the House recording studio has not covered an event.

Darrell Issa claims he did not allow her to speak because his panel was about religious liberty, not birth control. However, denying the right to broadcast Fluke’s testimony during an entirely separate panel a week later clearly demonstrates that this was all about keeping women down and had nothing to do with liberty.

This is lights-out democracy and a bully’s keep-away handling of the national gavel.

    It’s childish, anti-American, anti-intellectual, and morally corrupt.

The Republican party’s visible eye-rolling in an honest an open hearing on these matters would give the whole country vertigo. This is how they do the institution of democracy– with mocking derision and undisciplined idiot-contempt.

I’m half-expecting a hearing on the national cootie epidemic to justify the continuing existence of their rights-burning Hitler ovens.

How women are not considered part of the “religious liberty” discussion defies rational explanation. It says that women are not capable of making moral decisions.

How about a few nuns on the panel, at least? Of course, they’d have to be excommunicated ones, like the Catholic hospital administrator in Arizona that allowed an abortion because the mother would have died without it. Her decision saved one of two lives (there was zero chance of saving the baby) but that was considered a mortal sin compared to losing both by sticking to the letter of the law.

Somebody please explain this to me. When exactly to did giving my employer veto power over my health care decisions become religious liberty?

So nobody rembers Sensenbrenner a few years back turning the lights and power off in a hearing where they made the mistake of allowing the Dems to HAVE witnesses?

We remember…oh we remember….this is just another example of the same chicanery but in this case the way the issue targets women is very disturbing in light of the rash of crazy laws being passed on the state level…there is a definite pattern forming…and it is a war on women.

WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK???? Every stupid bitch that votes for these assholes deserves every single thing she gets. They can all fuck themselves into a very deep, very dark, very cold pit.

No, they don’t deserve everything they get…I understand you’re angry but you have to understand that the women who agree with this kind 0f nonsense are victims too…victims of their men and victims of themselves….its as if they have Stockholm Syndrome.
