Keep Going Mitt Romney!

You’re doing great!

Overall, 55 percent of those who are closely following the campaign say they disapprove of what the GOP candidates have been saying. By better than 2 to 1, Americans say the more they learn about Romney, the less they like him. Even among Republicans, as many offer negative as positive assessments of him on this question. Judgments about former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who denounced Romney on Saturday night in Nevada, are about 3 to 1 negative.

The cost of maintaining Romney’s frontrunner status is very high, and this wingnut primary season will likely leave him with a permanent disapproval scar that will handicap his general election appeal.

Whether he backtracks to appeal to moderates after the primary is over, or digs deeper to appeal to the Lunatic Base, he can’t win either way because either scenario will offend a lot of voters.

Even if I was a Republican (God forbid and shutter the thought), I would have a very tough time being convinced of Romney’s ability to govern or lead. He clearly stated that we should let GM go broke. Now GM is the number one car builder in the world–shipping more cars to China than they sell here. And Romney is on the stump everyday trying to convince us that since he is a business man he knows better than Obama how to improve the economy. All evidence to the contrary I say. If we would have taken his advice GM would be gone and so would the 400,000 jobs it represents. As I said, even if I was a republican (blech…) what has he got that convinces me I should vote for him?

Romney has two basic problems: (1) he’s a CGI character, not a real person; and (2) he lies like a rug.

If there is any hope left for mankind, when Romney says stupid shit like “Barack Obama wants everyone to live on government handouts”, more people will furrow their brows, shake their heads, give Romney the stinkeye and say, “Dude, what the fuck are you talking about?!?!!?!!”

I like Paul Begala’s comment this week in Newsweek: “…when I look at the economy, I think Obama can’t win, but when I look at the Republicans, I think he can’t lose.”

While surveying the various candidates for the GOP Presidential nomination, I have never been able to imagine any of them managing to beat Barack Obama. Each of them, in their own way, is so stunningly incompetent.

I was asked my take on the current GOP slate recently. I answered what I’ve been thinking for some time now: it’s entirely irrelevant who they nominate.

Having said that, I shudder at the thought of taking Obama’s reelection for granted. I can’t forget the election not so long ago, when we all thought there was no way the highly experienced and accomplished public servant who had spent most of his life preparing for the presidency could lose to the dipshit from Texas who’d gotten everything he’d ever had from the largesse of his Daddy’s buddies and who had crashed every business he’d ever touched…
