Quote of the Morning

“CO2 is a pollutant? Tell that to the plants.” Rick Santorum

I won’t even try to rationalize this utter nonsense because it shows a deliberate ignorance of provable science. It goes right along with the deliberately ignorant line from the denier far-right that exhaling also causes global warming.

FACT: They’re deliberately lying to their voters because they know they can get away with it. To any Republican trolls hanging out here: they think you’re all easily-tricked dumbstupids!

It was ever thus. Machiavelli wrote, “Those wishing to deceive will always find those willing to be deceived.”

Water’s not a pollutant, but you can still drown in it.

Oh, her! She’s channeling Reagan again.
“Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do.” — Ronald Reagan, 1981

Anyway intellectually, Rick is about as close to plant life as a human can be.

There’s a reason why Santorum and his like want to keep people out of college, keep people from being exposed to “liberal professors” and all that fancy book-learnin’. There’s a reason why Fox News hosts and right-wing radio talkers tell their viewers and listeners not to watch or listen to anyone else, why they adamantly insist day after day that no one but Fox can be trusted.

It’s because their “philosophy,” their “beliefs,” their “views,” etc., whatever you want to call them, are so flimsy and so fragile that they cannot withstand mere exposure to other ideas, to alternative interpretations, to additional facts and knowledge, let alone intellectual, scientific or historical scrutiny. When you know you’re right, you’re not afraid to be exposed to other ideas and additional facts, and you’re certainly not afraid that others will be so exposed.

Depressingly true. (And they call us closed-minded!)

They call us closed-minded because we’re not “open-minded” enough to see things their way, accept their premises wholesale and vote the way they vote. I can’t tell you how many emails I got from right-wing friends and acquaintances in the spring of 2003 saying, in essentially these exact words, “If you are against the Iraq war, then you are by definition closed-minded.”

        • Draxiar

          Seriously? “by definition”?

          Webster would be proud…maybe.

          • GrafZeppelin127

Oh, yes. I think that was when I first realized that they’re all just repeating what they’re told on Fox et al. I got the “you’re by definition closed-minded” email from one acquaintance, then I was talking to another (who didn’t know the first) at a dinner party a few days later and was told the exact same thing. I think the source in this case was O’Reilly.

          • D_C_Wilson

It always amazes me how many times conservatives have used the same talking points. Not just the ideas, but the exact same words and phrases. Give Fox credit. They’ve done an excellent job of indoctrinating the faithful into a single groupthink.

Too bad Santorum and the rest of the republicans’ policies are out to destroy all the plants.

  • holyreality

Electrolytes ARE what a plant REALLY wants.

I wish I could “love” this comment. Sometimes “like” just doesn’t cut it.

    • Dan_in_DE

But, .. . Brawndo’s got what plants crave!

This is the candidate who said that seeking higher education makes one a “snob.” All evidence to the contrary.

    • D_C_Wilson

Yeah, the candidate with three degrees, all from public universities, says college makes you a snob and destroys faith.

  • Draxiar

Rick, you’re an uber-fucktard of the highest and purest form. I’d say that you should take a science class but you’d find it contrary to two of your beliefs.

Once again, the question of why republicans want to keep voter uneducated, is answered.
