Worst Person in the World

Corporate scam artist Rick Berman, who also shills for Big Tobacco and pitches high fructose corn syrup, ran a totally dishonest ad against the Humane Society during the Oscars.

Of course this is ridiculously misleading. ThinkProgress noted that much of the Humane Society’s money goes to non-shelter animal welfare causes.

In court, the Humane Society defends laws prohibiting horse slaughter, it fights to protect dolphins from aggressive tuna fishing techniques, and it supports regulations governing the treatment of “downed” cattle. In Congress and state legislatures, the Humane Society backs many anti-cruelty bills, including the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012, which would prevent egg-laying hens from being packed into tiny cages that leaves them with virtually no room to move around.

The ad makes it seem as if the Humane Society was keeping 99 percent of its money as profit. Clearly it’s not.

Why the hell would you run an ad against the Humane Society? I must be out of the loop on something, but running an ad against a group that wants to stop the needless slaughter of animals and find homes for abandoned pets seems like some serious Cruella de Vil, Disney villain shit.

Is conservative political philosophy really just “I’m a white male. I should be allowed to do whatever I want! Anything less is tyranny, no matter what the consequences of my actions are!” The Humane Society helped get tougher animal cruelty laws on the books in Utah and it was met with surprising resistance. It is still cited as a case of “socialist government takeover” because now you’re not allowed to drown you dog whenever you feel like it.
The Utah legislature even recently considered a bill to allow people to shoot untagged domestic cats on their property. Clearly getting the Johnson’s “darn cat” out of your yard was more important than considering the consequences of allowing people to discharge a firearm in residential areas. It didn’t pass thankfully.

So…the Humane Society is bad. The Girl Scouts are bad. Planned Parenthood is the devil. Exercise and healthy eating habits – bad. Nutritious school lunches, very bad. My vagina is Satan. I feel like I’m living in Crazy World.
