Quote of the Day

“It would’ve been nice if they had shared that with the larger public, the Republican leaders. Instead, Mr. Boehner comes out and says, Rush’s language was inappropriate. Using a salad fork for your entree, that’s inappropriate. Not this stuff. I mean, and Rick Santorum says well, what he says was absurd, but an entertainer is allowed to be absurd. No. It is the responsibility of conservatives to police the right in its excesses, just as the liberals unfailingly fail to police the excesses in their own side. And it was depressing, because what it indicates is that the Republican leaders are afraid of Rush Limbaugh. They want to bomb Iran, but they’re afraid of Rush Limbaugh.” George Will

He had me until the thing about liberals. As someone who receives almost as much nasty email from liberals as from conservatives, I call hooey on that one.

It is the responsibility of conservatives to police the right in its excesses …

That’s rich, coming from someone who has never called out the Right on anything.

I’m no George Will fan…..he has always seemed like an uptight judgmental prick whose sourpuss ideals were always only applied to those on the left. It is refreshing and way overdue for him to finally turn that pissy attitude on his fellow conservatives. Evidently calling women sluts and prostitutes goes to far for him but calling the president a socialist, or saying the President wasn’t born in the US, or calling us unpatriotic, or…..well the list goes on and on, doesn’t it?

Do you mean that get a lot of emails from liberals trying to police your supposed excesses? Because this part of your post isn’t very clear.

As to your overall point, You are absolutely correct, it is about time someone on the right stood up and said something like this BUT the “both sides do it” is total BS.

Liberals are free to call each other names just like everyone else. It’s actually a trait.

      • http://drangedinaz.wordpress.com/ IrishGrrrl

I still don’t get it….if he was addressing this part of the quote: “just as the liberals unfailingly fail to police the excesses in their own side.”

Is Bob saying he gets yelled at because he is trying to police other liberals?

        • http://www.osborneink.com OsborneInk

You know Bob and I are never far left enough for some lefties. We get it all. The. Time.

          • http://drangedinaz.wordpress.com/ IrishGrrrl

Yeah I know…I feel the same way. I am always amused by cons who feel that I’m so far left I must be a Maoist. If they only knew just how far the left goes! The great thing about it is that the crazies on the left aren’t near as visible as the crazies on the right. Both sides do it, my ass!

I would guess it would be for deviating from the “progressive” party line; which would be the Greenwalds, Hamshers, Firedoggies, etc.

  • JMAshby

The key line to me is

They want to bomb Iran, but they’re afraid of Rush Limbaugh

Of course the entire sermon was watered down with a little “both sides do it” meme.

    Balance for vanity’s sake

    • http://www.osborneink.com OsborneInk

Rationalization. To admit a wrong is to take a wound to the ego.

  • http://www.osborneink.com OsborneInk

” just as the liberals unfailingly fail to police the excesses in their own side”

THIS is why I write those posts about Greenwald and so on. I relentlessly critique “liberal” media in order to fail at policing its excesses. HOW DOES THAT WORK?!

    • Brutlyhonest

Indeed; those silly liberals who didn’t make weiner resign. You know, just like the rwnjs that get caught up in sex scandals and are forced out of office …..

      • http://drangedinaz.wordpress.com/ IrishGrrrl

I was told yesterday by a teabagger on Facebook that I was just as bad as Limbaugh….Really?! I called him a hypocrite and a misogynist (all demonstrably true) and then gave people links to Credo’s campaign to contact his sponsors. Oh, I also called him a carbuncle on the body politic. However, I could have said sooooo much worse but refrained. Now only about 10 people read my blog consistently and the most hits in one day I have ever gotten was in the 90′s….so comparing me with Limbaugh is absurd. But could this guy see that? No. He said I was engaging in “hate speech”. Really?! Coming out of wingtard’s mouth it’s free speech, coming out of mine, it’s hate speech (and somehow as vitriolic and damaging). What utter horse poo.

        • Brutlyhonest

I don’t think they have the capability to comprehend why there isn’t a lefty equivalent to the right’s hatemongers. Even that blow-hard shultz can’t compare. How many multimillionaires have they created by appealing to the hatefulness and selfishness of people?

          • http://drangedinaz.wordpress.com/ IrishGrrrl

Now Limbaugh is saying he descended to our level. I’m pretty certain, no one on the left with any kind of influence has ever called someone a slut or prostitute. A liar, a grifter, a crook, guilty as charged (again, all of which can be proven true) but stigmatized labels such as Limbaugh uses? No.
