Worst Persons in the World

Every single adult involved in this should be utterly ashamed of themselves, and if I were a parent I would be seriously considering filing a suit.

Emphasis mine.

The Christian rap metal band from Minnesota had some shocking words last week for a Dunkerton, Iowa, high school audience. School administrators told local media that the group was supposed to talk about “bullying and making good choices.”

Instead, parents said, the band told girls in the audience that “they were going to have mud on their wedding dresses if they weren’t virgins.” In a break-out session for girls, the band told them to save themselves for their husbands and assume a submissive role in marriage. Then the girls were forced to chant a mantra about virginity. [...]

Now enter a little-known band from Minnesota to preach to teenagers at Dunkerton High School, where the band also targeted the GLBT community, showing pictures of Elton John and assailing his sexuality.

They said that the average age of a gay man at death was 42 because his actions “literally kill him.”

And to round out the picture, the students saw photos of fetuses during the assembly’s portion on abortion.

I struggle to find an explanation for why anyone, for any reason, would think it’s acceptable to display this kind of content to other people’s children.

The school’s administrators should be embarrassed and maybe even lose their jobs for this.

The leader of the ‘band’ Junkyard Whatsits is a Axl-wannabe named Bradlee Dean, well known in MN politics, runs a sort of church, gave an invocation for a MN legislative session so wild, muslimygayborting stuff, that it was, by voice vote, removed from the record and redone with the usual chaplain (I’m ignoring that IMO these ‘invocations’ are ridiculous in the first place). The school assembly thingee is his MO – this is not the first time a principal too stupid to come up with a better excuse than ‘I didn’t know’ has gotten his ass caught in the blades for having “You Can Run…” at their assemblies.

      Great local insight – thanks!

I’ve heard of Bradlee Dean before. From everything I’ve gathered, he’s one big douchenozzle.

    TPM yesterday:

Those at the school who walked out on the program were mocked and shouted down, the WCF Courier reports.

On Thursday, students passed around a petition to ban the group and others like it from performing at the school. According to the WCF Courier, another petition circulated Friday asking the school’s gay community to stop complaining.

I wouldn’t piss on Bradlee Dean if he were on fire, but I wouldn’t dream of denying him the right to be a bigot. He is free to hoot and gibber and wave his arms around and demonstrate to all who choose to pay attention that he is a rage-filled knucklehead.

The key phrase being “all who choose to pay attention.” Inviting Dean to a school is inexcusable (to use my mom’s favorite word) under any circumstances, but particularly to perform at a school assembly.

The fact that no one at the school or the district seems to have spent the necessary five minutes with the googles to find out what Dean is makes me wonder: is this gobsmacking incompetence or did whoever issued the invitation simply not expect a negative reaction? Either way, firings are very much in order.

How the hell do you “force” someone to chant a repellent slogan? I bet three-quarters of ‘em didn’t. And Yay, students! for calling them out with a petition.

Teenagers are notorious for not wanting to be different so if enough religious kids started with the band the rest would join in but then bitch about later. So don’t assume they weren’t forced until you know the percentage of evangelical students vs. Non- evangelical students.

And kudos to those kids who walked out. I hope the administrators get fired…as many here have said…it is just unacceptable.

Holy Shitcakes!!!, somebody needs to lose a job over this one. The Jesus freaks need to take a serious chill pill.

    • incredulous72

Trust me Zen, Jesus wants no part of that guy.

I feel like I need to get myself fitted for some steel armor, and have my local blacksmith craft me a fine sword, the evangelicals and Republicans are trying to take us all back to medieval times, when the world was flat, women had no rights, and science was considered the mark of the devil.

While this one was open about its religious nonsense, these kind of assemblies are not even remotely uncommon. When I was in high school, we’d frequently have some kind of “anti-suicide,” “anti-drug” or “anti-bullying” assembly where the speaker would always – always – sneak some sort of religious reference in.

Usually something like “I’d never talk about religion in a public school, but my lord Jesus Christ got me through my alcoholism.”

    Seriously.

They’re sneaky little effers who just can’t help themselves…may the Good Lord save us from religious fanatics. /snort

    • MiddleMittenLiberal

Oh, my, does that bring back memories. Mitt’s mother (Lenore) spoke to my high school (circa 1966–Seaholm HS, Birmingham, MI) about the evils of pot. I am glad my kids are well pass this sort of BS.

It’s important for some context, and this being a shitty band from Minnesota, this:

Nine students, kids, from ONE Minnesota school district– Anoka-Hennepin– committed suicide over the course of less than two years very recently.

    From Rolling Stone:

Four of the nine dead were either gay or perceived as such by other kids, and were reportedly bullied.

And this is the result of right wing zealots who are actively cultivating a poisonous environment in the nurseries of society and they shouldn’t be worrying about losing their jobs as much as being arrested and charged with reckless endangerment of minors.

This is exporting their bigotry and hate across state lines. There should be a law against that. Like an act of war, or culture war, on another state. Man the defenses, America!

Because this is a self-evident truth: Right wing Christian conservatism is fundamentally flawed by the standard of what it produces. Where love and understanding have been overthrown by ignorance and hate in America, you’re likely to find a right wing christian conservative wearing a creepy trophy smile.

  • Treading_Water

So let me get this straight. President Obama speaking to students about the benefits of staying in school and completing their education is unacceptable socialist indoctrination, but having children hate teh gay, chant virginity chants, and accept the shame of premarital sex is completely fine?
