In other news, the Republican-controlled House Agriculture Committee voted today to advance $33 billion in cuts to food stamps (SNAP). According to recent numbers, food stamps have reduced poverty by 8 percent and are directly stimulative for the economy.

And speaking outside of the binary — go stand in line at the grocery behind a single mother with a baby who is paying for food with food stamps and then tell me we should vote to end them immediately. If you can do that, you aren’t human.

    Because armed battalions marching into poor and disadvantaged neighborhoods in bright red uniforms by the authority of the corporate crown looting scraps of food and medicines tearing women and children away from their civil rights and liberties are war crimes.

    This is what civil war crimes look like. This is who the Republican party is. Corporate terrorists.

    Dude, I see it every-freakin’ day! I commented about this in a different food-stamp thread on here a couple of weeks ago. I live in Wake Forest, NC- home of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been in the checkout line behind a woman and her 2-3 youngin’s who is paying for their meager food ration with TANF vouchers or cards.

    I do some catering as one of my businesses and I’m in the local groceries quite a bit so, while this is anecdotal, I can say that this is *really* something I see on every shopping trip.

    However, unlike it’s portrayed by the Talib…er…Republican Party- these people are white, mid-to-late 20s, and students, or a spouse of a student at SEBTS. That’s right, Caucasian, seriously Christian folk surviving (barely) on government assistance. Welfare queens anyone?

    Which begs the question: if these “conservatives” saw these transactions, would their heads explode?

      If conservatives saw it, they’d chase the mother down in the parking lot and try to shame her in front of her kid, because the cards used nowadays are too easy to hide and don’t cause shame by themselves.

    its kinda nuts that the same people that need these services will vote for the people who will snatch them away, its god damn comical
