      I’m glad I’m not the only one amazed/perplexed at the Fox News “Democrats” like Beckel and whoever this person is that agreed that going on vacation is “tone deaf.”

      By Fox News standards, no federal employee should ever go on vacation.

      Does anyone else sense a racial tinge to this report, like “how dare that black woman go on vacation, doesn’t she know her place?”

    look guys, sorry….republicans are usually wrong but it’s not like democrats are ALWAYS right. I see no reason why they can’t take frugal local vacations for the few years they’re in the white house. Hell I don’t get to take vacations right now. I work, not as hard as the Obamas, but my kids are almost the same age, my life is hectic, and I never get a chance to get away. I’m not saying they should never take vacations, and Hawaii is perfectly reasonable because the president is from there, but I doubt we would be defending Mrs. Bush or Mrs. McCain if one of them was being accused of the same thing.

    We as liberals can justify why it’s no big deal, or how in the end it’s really a non issue, but most independents I know and even many liberals would not approve of this.

      If it’s not vacations, it would be something else. They already bash Obama for golfing. Nothing would placate the Fox News crowd.

      I didn’t see anybody counting up how much public money was spent on Bush’s vacations. All I remember is the hundreds of days Bush spent at his ranch at Crawford, and FNC didn’t say a peep back then.

        The Obamas need to take a Trailways bus to real murikkka places like Opryland or Graceland. And why stay in those fancy smancy hotels – Econolodge is good enough for me, its good enough for them! And they can pack spam sammiches and sam’s club sodas in a cooler to keep from eating out. Afterall, that’s how REAL Murikkka lives and they have NO RIGHT to be using up all MY money to pay for trips to foreign places like Hawaii anyway.

      You do realize that Obama has taken fewer vacations than Bush and Clinton during the same time in office. Protecting the President of the United States is a built in cost, it’s not like he can book a flight on Jet Blue to save the taxpayers money. All this nonsense is being drummed up for one reason and one reason alone. Some people have not or will not ever go over the fact that a black man occupies the highest office in the world. The people behind the propaganda machine has used almost every trick in the book to marginalize, undervalue, and and dehumanize President Obama and yet he continues to expose them as knuckle dragging, bat shit crazy, neanderthals.

All I said was the average independent voter would not be happy about this and they don’t care if he’s black, white, republican or democrat. When you see the half million dollar price tag for a vacation, it looks bad, like it or not.

          Did the average independent voter care when Daddy Bush, Clinton, and The Decider Bush went on vacation during their Presidency, I think not.

          I fear that you have fallen into the dark anti-matter void of Republican talking points. Your hypothesis is putting to much stock into the fallacy that independent voters aren’t rational enough to understand that it cost money to protect Presidents. That is the one area I would never want to see the government cut costs. Especially since this country is far from being broke.

        Yes I’m serious. I know people who reluctantly voted for Obama in 08 and they eat up stories like this. They say he’s “just like Bush” and shit like this is why they think it. They don’t like Romney but now they consider voting for him. The Obamas play into the hands of republicans by ignoring these concerns, whether they’re valid or not. Don’t attack the messenger. You all blog to each other on this site and assume the rest of the 08 Obama voters are reasonable and informed. Guess what, they’re not.

          He should go to Disneyland? I don’t know but it seems to me to be a slippery slope going after unreasonable voters. How far do you go to please them in the end? It’s kind of demeaning to this president when he gets attacked for this kind of stuff and others skated by with ease.

          I’m like this. STOP CODDLING THOSE JACKASSES!!!! I’m sorry, but Barack Obama has been President for nearly four years. If they are entering the voting booth and making a choice not on health care, not on foreign policy or the economic successes but instead that the PRESIDENT of THE UNITED STATES has enough money for the First Lady and the kids to go to Aspen, or Massachusetts or back home to Honolulu, then I don’t give a shit if they vote or not. Let their asses whither on the vine while richy rich Romney buys homes everywhere he and Ann vacation.

          Like you said, its a non-issue and if they are still on the fence after all these years, there not Obama voters, they are swing voters and just like the rest of them will be deciding the vote on whether they like Romney’s path or the President’s path.

    Since Michelle and Sasha Obama traveled to Spain in August of 2010, either that’s an old clip or the Right is getting desperate.

The bulk of the trip—the hotel stay and all meals—were paid for by the Obamas and their close friends who joined them. “Any additional footprint,” says a White House aide, “including additional rooms needed for security support, falls under the same rules as have applied to any previous first-family travel: the costs are split appropriately, with private expenses paid for privately; government expenses are paid for by the government.”

    The Obamas should just hide their faces in the bunker of shame right wing conservatives have manufactured for them. They can stay in the service quarter’s service quarters, but only after the silver is polished and counted.

    A 2nd class presidency should be good enough for a 2nd class citizen, after all.

    But this is all about conservative propaganda using dog whistle politics with blue collar people who still reserve the phrase, “nigger rich” to describe all those “welfare queens.”

    This is the continuing cultivation of white resentment for political gain masked as an economic argument against the first family and it’s morally repugnant, criminally antagonistic.

    Those who would give in to this ignorance have been preconditioned by history’s dog-whistling bow-tie douche bags.
