Mitt Romney Goes Full Ron Paul

When did Republican politics include the ridiculous notion of eliminating cabinet level departments and agencies? Romney wants to eliminate “a lot” apparently.

In a closed-door speech to donors at a private home in Florida on Sunday, Mitt Romney was unusually candid about his policy plans, offering details about what he expects to implement if elected president in November.

According to NBC News, the former Massachusetts governor said he may decide to eliminate several government agencies, including the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which was once led by his father, George Romney.

“I’m going to take a lot of departments in Washington, and agencies, and combine them. Some eliminate, but I’m probably not going to lay out just exactly which ones are going to go,” Romney said. “Things like Housing and Urban Development, which my dad was head of, that might not be around later.”

The naming of HUD is pure Southern Strategy. Eliminate the department that helps minorities. Un-fucking-believable.

Minorities in the crosshairs to be sure, but there are no small number of cracker-ass-crackers living in HUD financed mobile homes across the Bible Belt.
Surely they wouldnt vote square against their own interests…right?

As one of the toothless Mississippians that Nancy Pelosi’s daughter interviewed said, “Voting republican hasn’t worked so far, but it might someday.”

And, typical of Romney, he’s already walking it back.

“β€œHe was tossing ideas out, not unveiling policy,” a Romney spokesperson told CNN.”

And we thought we had seen the bottom of the barrel of wingnut pandering with mccain. HA!

I am actually beginning to believe there is no bottom…..it’s an almost endless abyss that leads us to hell in hand basket

“I’m goning to”, the most overused and under performing words anyone running for any office can say before an election and always envokes the appropriate audience’s hopes and dreams.

We have a relative (by marriage, thank god) that precedes most statements with “I’m gon” meaning, I’m going to. My mother has renamed this person with exactly that phrase – whenever she refers to him, she replaces his name with those two words.

I can’t tell you what I’d do I’m running for president for pete’s sake.

The big difference? Ron Paul has made clear what he will do as President. While Romney is just throwing ideas around…

    • D_C_Wilson

But like Ron Paul, Romney is spreading the myth that a president can just make whole departments disappear with a wave of his magic wand when in reality, since these agencies were created by an act of Congress, only an act of Congress can dissolve them.

      • http://drangedinaz.wordpress.com/ IrishGrrrl

Um, no disrespect intended, but have you noticed how nutso Congress is lately?

        • D_C_Wilson

That’s not really the point. The point is, the president cannot dissolve departments without the consent the Congress.

And right now, Congress can’t muster up the votes to recognize Arbor Day.

      • MostPoliticiansLie

I don’t think Ron Paul has ever said he could do that unilaterally. Just like his budget proposal, to cut 1 trillion dollars from the budget – it’s known that Congress approves that. Now however all these wars, military engagements, and executive orders – Ron Paul can end rather immediately.

As for Congress: This movement is not really about Ron Paul. This is about us citizens demanding a transparent and responsible government that is run by and for the people, instead of corporations – and follows our laws. Ron Paul is just the current standard bearer for this. We all realize that for these things to be accomplished – this movement must translate through Congress too.

Once enough people realize how effed up our government and currency/economy are, and how much corporations run (own) us, Congressmen will change – or be replaced.

          Zzzzzzzzzzz

          Wha? Huh?

Oh sorry. I dozed off for a minute.

That usually happens when a Paultard starts waxing about how they’re the only ones who see how effed our political and economic system is.

Now, do you have an ideas on how to fix things that don’t involve turning the clock back to the early 19th century? i.e, ones that would actually work.

  • http://drangedinaz.wordpress.com/ IrishGrrrl

Well I know folks that work for HUD, who might normally vote Republican who now won’t because they like being employed instead of being homeless.
