Super Stupid

The Fox News mole/spy for Gawker went from being our hero to a dumbstupid within about 48 hours. He evidently attained and leaked information from within Fox News using his personal login for the FNC database. Doy.

So that’s it. Almost as soon as was started, it ended. The guy’s name is Joe Muto, a staffer on The O’Reilly Factor, and he’s been suspended with pay.

The good news is that he intends to release covert information he gathered as an insider. So there’s that. It just would’ve been better if he had been doing it in real time as an ongoing employee.

He hasn’t stopped being a dumbstupid since then, either. To wit:

In the end, it was the digital trail that gave me away. They knew that someone, using my computer login, had accessed the sources for two videos that ended up on Gawker over the past few weeks. They couldn’t prove it entirely, but I was pretty much the only suspect.

I denied it, which is why they didn’t fire me outright.

Yeah, except now you just confessed to the world on the Internet. There goes your with-pay suspension, genius.

Okay. You had me at “to wit:”. :)

Sad, this mole could have been so much fun. Of course, nothing he could have said would have made people I know who watch Fox News (and only Fox News) change the station or make other media outlets any less scared to call out Fox News for what it really is. Still hoping the cell phone and bribery scandal bleeds over to America.

      You mean, something like this?

      ETA: A better report here.

S-M-R-T, just like Homer Simpson. Good job, buddy. It was fun while it lasted.

    Not quite James Bond.

The guy needs to learn how to conduct covert operations.

  • Nefercat

Does this mean we can no longer laugh at James O’Keefe’s imbecilic attempts to “expose” liberals being, uh, liberals?

  • Victor_the_Crab

    Batman, he ain’t!

I don’t know – being more careful probably would have bought him a day or two at the most. I highly doubt he could have remained hidden for any significant amount of time. In lieu of actual evidence (i.e. digital trail), using process of elimination to ferret out a closet-liberal at Fox probably isn’t that hard…

    • Ipecac

All they would have had to do is bring in some homeless guy, punch him in the stomach and see who laughs. The one who doesn’t laugh is the liberal mole.

        HA! Truer words…….

        LOLz!

Maybe it is that kind of dumb-stupidness that got him the job at FOX in the first place. Just sayin’…

Well, the guy meant well….someone needs to acquaint him with VPN services.

  • Brutlyhonest

I don’t know if this dude is stupid, but he is naive. The whole “mole” angle was silly from the start.

Espionage – for state or corporation – is neither simple nor easy. Now, he knows it and is likely to get the shit kicked out of him (figuratively for sure and maybe literally if they can find a way to prosecute him criminally, too).
