Another Win for the Far-right

Far-right tea party Republicans in Indiana ousted Dick Lugar yesterday in the Senate primary there.

The moderates continue to be purged from the party. It goes without saying this is killing the Republican Party from within — mainly because centrist independent voters probably won’t follow the GOP that far to the right.

Instead, they right-leaners will probably lurch over to the moderate Democrats. And that’s good news.

Meanwhile, watch for Richard Mourdock to join the Crazy Caucus.

Unfortunately, this asshole will probably be elected; this is Indiana after all. Even so, I instinctively feel the far-right, Tea Party “movement” starting to burn itself out. I have a feeling the coming general election will be very telling in this respect. Sure, the wackos will be energized but this isn’t some off-year election where turn out is low as 2010 was.

Moderates are having buyers remorse over the 2010 election. Why, even in Kansas, the latest responsible poll shows Governor Sam Brownback has a lower approval rating statewide than the president. I believe the far right will be the victims of their own overreach and will be largely repudiated in November.
