Quote of the Day

This is Mitt Romney, in a nutshell.

I’m not familiar precisely with exactly what I said, but I stand by what I said, whatever it was. -Romney on Rev. Wright Attacks

“I stand by what I said, whatever it was” is a dangerous thing for Mitt Romney to say, because he could have said anything.

He has said anything. That’s been his entire campaign strategy. To say whatever people want to hear. And apparently he stands by it. Whatever it was.

I don’t expect him to actually stand by what he said today after “whatever it was” he said previously is dug up.

And yes, in case you didn’t know, we’re back on Reverend Jeremiah Wright. The New York Times reported today that Chicago Cubs owner Joe Ricketts is considering a $10 million ad buy to run political attack ads connecting President Obama to Reverend Wright. And we all just took a trip back to 2008.

Ricketts, meanwhile, is seeking $100 million socialized dollars from the local government to renovate Wrigley Field.

He’s really gunning for the Matthew Harrison Brady Award, isn’t he — “I do not think about things I do not think about!”

Like those “known unknowns”…who the f*ck really knows!

But he’s a man of great consistency. He consistently changes whichever way the wind blows.

By this time tomorrow, he claim not have any memory of standing behind whatever it was he said.

Oh, fuck me. I heard about the Ricketts’ pater familia doing something like this on the radio today, but didn’t have time to follow up and find out just what the hell he was doing. I heard the words, “Jeremiah Wright and the Ricketts” and that was it. I’m fucking crushed. I’ve been a lifelong Cubs fan. Born on the North side. Live on the Northside, but I will be moving soon(not because of this, though). My dad was a Cubs fan. His dad was a Cubs fan. They’re both buried in Graceland cemetery couple blocks from Wrigley.

When I was 5, my mom and I ran into Ernie Banks at the Brickyard mall. She approached him, while he shopped with his family, and began telling him how much he meant to the family and he was gracious and warm, as he always is. She told him that my blue fielder’s glove was in the car, and he actually agreed to wait there while we ran to retrieve it– over ten minutes! We came back and there he was. Signed my blue glove(I’m not calling it a “mitt”)and off he went, parting ways with kind words. My first foray into political message board flame wars began on the Cubs message board. That’s basically where I sculpted my arguments and commentary. It’s been overrun for years by wingnuts posting the craziest, stupidest, shit. There’s a lot of wingnut Cubs fans who will welcome this news. I haven’t posted there in a year or two because it just got to the point where it was just too exhausting doing all the mental legwork it takes to fend off a small army of relentless wingnuts posting intellectually dishonest laundry lists of anti-Obama/pro-wingnut commentary.

Fuck the Ricketts, man. Motherfuckers should have kept their business on the field. They’ve crossed a line. And what they’ve done with the team and ballpark is a fucking travesty. Never liked them. Never trusted them. When they bought the team, I knew they were going to turn out to be complete assholes.

I can’t continue to support a franchise that engages in this sort of top down wingnut partisan politics. Having opinions is one thing. Putting good money up to attack president Obama in this way is where I have to draw the line.

Joe Ricketts isn’t even from Chicago. He’s from Nebraska. He recently dumped $200,000 on a Sarah Palin-backed challenger, state Sen. Deb Fischer, for U.S. Senate. She won, coming from behind in the last week because he poured late cash into the campaign, through his shady as fuck one-man Super Pac. He also poured money into Sharon Angle’s campaign in Nevada in 2010.

And you’re correct about the Ricketts trying to screw the city out of hundreds of millions for renovations. They’re trying to takeover Wrigleyville and turn it into a mega sports and entertainment complex.

I don’t like it when sports team owners fuck with our elections and democracy. Most of them are corporate socialists extorting their host cities like money grubbing viruses.

I was actually wearing a Cubs hat when I read this. I’ve got other hats.

    FUCK!
