The Iowa Republican Party Goes Birther, Part 2

Ashby posted about this yesterday but I thought I’d weigh in. Again, the official Iowa GOP platform contains the following section:

We insist that a candidate prove that he or she meets all requirements for that office prior to being placed in nomination, including proof of United States citizenship.

They didn’t include the definition of “proof.” Obviously furnishing your official birth certificate isn’t good enough anymore. Nor is a newspaper announcement. Nor is confirmation from the state Department of Health. I think they need videotape — but even that can be altered with CG technology. So I guess what they’re really saying is: if you have a foreign-sounding name and dark skin, you can’t run for office in Iowa.

The GOP is suffering from a terminal disease and this is crap is one of the symptoms. (Also, they are on the wrong side of history with these frequent displays of racism.) They are going the way of the dodo I’m afraid, but they won’t go quietly and most likely will cause a lot of damage on their way out…

Afraid? No, ecstatic. The extinction of the Republican Party (as it exists today) can not come fast enough.

Sadly, they might take a lot of people (and the country’s economy) with them in their death throes.

I’ve been saying this for years: You could build a time machine and send a birther back to witness Obama’s birth and they’d still deny it.

It’s never been about where he was born. It’s about the fact he failed the melanin test.
