The Republican Lie About Carbon Dioxide, And The Idiots Who Believe It

My Wednesday column for The Daily Banter. It’s an important one so RT often.

One of the memes I often have to repeat is, simply put, the Republican and conservative leadership routinely lies to its followers. I mean, outright lying on just about every issue.

One lie in particular is so utterly ridiculous and so outside the purview of reality that we can draw no other conclusion besides the obvious: conservative leaders think their followers are really, really stupid. And considering how many followers repeat this lie, the leaders might actually be right.

Here it is. Human breathing, they say, creates CO2 emissions and therefore liberals want to regulate human breathing in order to prevent the climate change “myth.”… CONTINUE READING HERE.

    I said some time ago (on this very blog, in fact) that if these folks really believe what they say, they should tie a plastic bag over their heads. If CO2 is as harmless as they say, nothing bad will happen to them, right?

    Good article Bob.
    As I was reading it I couldn’t help remembering some “facts” from Faux News.
    1) It was un-American to criticize a wartime President from 2001 through 2008. What happened to that?
    2) In November of 2008 when Obama was inaugurated and the Dow was in the 6500′s, they heaped all the blame on the new administration hour after hour and day after day, month after month yet curiously they don’t mention the Dow in this context today.
    The Republican establishment is a well oiled and well funded propaganda machine that has become totally dependent on lies and encourages bigots, religious fundamentalists, racists, misogynists, xenophobes, conspiracy theorists, gun nuts and those too stupid to realize they are being played for dupes.
    I’m not quite sure how to critisize almost half of the population that follows their blatant and contradictory bullshit day after day, but in my opinion the leaders are guilty of treason.

    Two quick science things that are easily understood that crush the idiocy pretty well:

    1) The reason we EXhale it instead of INhaling it is because CO2 is a waste product, poisonous to our bodies which is why it’s rejected by our lungs. “Look! Poop comes right out of me! Surely there’s no problem with swimming in great pools of it! It’s so natural!”

    2) Natural processes tend to be buffered. Animals breathing out carbon dioxide tends to get cancelled out by plants breathing in carbon dioxide. So no problem. But adding artificial CO2 sources (that is, burning hydrocarbons like petroleum) is putting a big weight on the “CO2-producing” side of the scale. The first mammals didn’t drive.
