The Tax & Spend Liberal Who Didn't Tax & Spend

There’s the Republican myth about President Obama’s fiscal record, and then there’s this:

The truth is since Bush’s last budget (2009), the deficit has gone down each year since then. Any Republican who says differently is lying.

(Incidentally, I wish taxes were higher on rich people, and I wish the government was spending more to boost economic growth and job creation, but okay.)

One thing that this data may be used for is to show the these “more austere” (more austere than before) and our comparatively better growth than some europe, show austerity can promote growth…albeit the devil is in the details but I do think I heard a GBTV person use that argument on Maher a few weeks back.

ThinkProgress’ “economics” is totally meant to create false equivalences. In this case it’s taking lower revenues from a tanked economy and calling it “lowering taxes,” and then giving Obama credit for it. Then it claims that “today’s” deficit will be lower as a pct of GDP, but it conveniently says nothing about the deficits of 2009 and 2010, nor anything about the balooning debt despite all this supposed thriftyness.
And, when you say spending and deficits are “lower” as a percentage of GDP, you’re just as likely admitting that each in actual dollars is increasing.

    Spin on…

      “Spin on”, indeed.
