Romney Responds with a Big Fat Lie

In response to the biggest Romney gaffe of the campaign so far — the one about how it’s wrong to hire more teachers, firefighters and police officers — the Romney team has released a video showing the president apparently bragging that government employment has gone down under his administration.

Of course the video clip is insanely out of context.

Here’s the Romney ad:

And here’s what the president really said:

Naturally, the president was saying that it was a bad thing that government employment — teachers, firefighters, etc — has gone down. He also said that it was due to the Republicans filibustering his legislation to hire more workers. And that’s entirely true.

So Romney continues to lie with impunity and, in fact, he’s running an entire campaign on flagrant, easily-debunked lies.

For which the mainstream media should easily expose and debunk. Oh wait…

    Obama: World is round.
    Romney: World is flat.
Mainstream media: Obama, Romney differ on shape of world.
Fox: Obama lying about shape of world?
Limbaugh: Obama lying about shape of world to promote far-left agenda.
Malkin: Liberals spew hate at Americans for disagreeing with Obama on shape of world.
Paulite libertarian: Let free market decide shape of world.
Liberal: Obama not doing enough to make world more round.
Far left: Vote Romney to punish Obama for not making world more round.
Tea Party: Round world = socialism.
    Birther: Round world includes Kenya.
Romney campaign ad: Obama thinks world is round, proves he’s out of touch with the American People.
David Gregory: Let’s welcome Senator John McCain. Senator, what do you think of the president’s statement that the world is round, when it certainly appears from looking out the window, and I think a lot of people would agree, that the world is most likely flat, and do you think this puts him out of touch with the American people?

      Add one more:

Fox and Friends: Some people say that Obama is lying about the shape of the world.

  • roxsteady

Yes and sadly, while the media has been ignoring this pattern, Rachel Maddow and Steve Benen have been calling out Romney and the media. Now, this is off topic but, I just want Bob and Ashby to know that I frequently use charts posted by both of you to annoy wingnut commenters on mediaite when I feel in the mood for some trolling of my own. It shuts them down everytime so thanks, and keep up the good posts!

Mitt Romney is a character straight out of central casting for a David Lynch movie

    • D_C_Wilson

For the role of “shallow corporate douchebag turned politician”.

As much as the Romney campaign using this kind of deception, or to use a less kind expression, lying like a sack of shit, angers me, it’s making me really look forward to the debates. I imagine that the first sentence of every one of Obama’s rebuttals will be:

“Now Governor, you just know that’s not true.”

    • D_C_Wilson

And the spin on Fox will be:

      “Obama viciously attacks Romney’s integrity.”
