Shouting at the President = Good, 'Vagina' = Bad

My column from yesterday points out yet another massive Republican contradiction:

Clearly it’s acceptable conservative behavior to shout things at the president during formal gatherings. Simply put, it’s because many conservatives don’t believe President Obama is a legitimate president even though he won the 2008 election with a 53 percent majority. But, you know, he’s black and not a real American so… illegitimate! Heckle away!

Conversely, you know what’s absolutely unacceptable to conservatives?

Saying “vagina” on the floor of the Michigan state house. Continued here…

There’s something that’s been driving me crazy for years.

Rep. Joe Wilson did not shout, “You lie!” at the president during the health-care address. He simply shouted, “Lie!”

Not that there’s really a difference, but why everyone has gotten this wrong right from the beginning is strage to me. Watch the video. Wilson shouted just the one word, “Lie!”

Bob, good article. It’s funny, I have been writing about the War on Women a lot this year and have had many occasion to use the word, vagina. And a couple of days ago, I did an entire segment on the incident in Michigan in my Weekly Vlog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdiQIlnLm7w&feature=youtu.be).

I find it incredibly strange, just like you, that the Michigan Legislature had the term vagina in writing, in the bill being debated, on everyone’s mind, but the women debating it were not allowed to use the term. Also note, no one complained about the men using the term. So this is where we are at…REALLY at….the people’s duly elected female officials in Michigan cannot use a perfectly acceptable medical term when discussing a bill about said term? Should they have used the million other terms or something slang such as “va-jay-jay”?

The GOP says it’s because of the context but other than the “vagina bill” context and her tone, which was sarcastic, I’m not sure what the hell they mean by tone. And if sarcasm is no longer allowed…then I want to see any male senators who use sarcasm and any medical term also be banned. I won’t hold my breath though.

You know something else that really irked me…why did the Democratic Caucus leader not stand up for Rep. Brown? Why did they meekly go along with the ban? Can they not stand up to the Rep majority and refuse to come to floor? If not very effective, it would have been at least symbolic of their solidarity with her. Instead they just told Rep. Brown she was banned and expected her to comply.

It’s too bad I don’t live in Michigan because I would be tempted to organize a demonstration where women take shifts standing in front of the doors to Congress with bullhorns, repeating the word “vagina” for days on end. We could sings songs, quote limericks or simply chant it…but just inundate them with the word. That and repeatedly say “No means no”.

Perhaps the most worrisome thing? Is that the MSM and the American public aren’t noticing these kinds of stories. They should be front page, above the fold news items. Women, half the population, are very rapidly having our rights taken away from us. And the only one’s noticing are bloggers and journalists from MSNBC, who nobody but liberals and bloggers watch. Should American women start pre-ordering our burqas now? Because that is what it is starting to feel like and I am increasingly worried about my daughter’s future in this country.

I have not had a chance to read Bob’s article above but an interview with a Republican representative (a female) I saw after it happened said that they objected to her equating the bill with rape (“No means no”). But I still think that is no reason for her to be banned. They have no justification and are grasping at straws. They had a case of “the vapors” when they heard the word vagina come from a lady, and just could not let it stand, I guess.

As a former Michigander with lots of friends and family still there, I am ashamed that I have not even seen people in my Facebook feed posting anything about this one way or another. I hope that it is just that they are not paying attention. I may have to poke this one with a stick to see what the local feelings are.

Yeah, bullies getting offended at hearing the word “vagina”. That’s rich. Perhaps they should all be addressed as “huge gaping assholes”, because that’s how they behave.
