Americans Paying Lowest Taxes in Decades

Another anti-Obama myth debunked:

Americans paid the lowest federal tax rate in three decades during President Obama’s first year in office, according to a new government report out this week.

The Congressional Budget Office found that the average tax rate in 2009 was 17.4 percent, the lowest since 1979, and down from 19.9 percent in 2007. Although figures are only available through 2009, the CBO expects to see the historic lows maintained through 2010 and 2011.

(The Washington Post points out the irony: 2009 was the same year anti-tax protesters began their full-throated criticism of White House tax policies.)

Repeating: the low taxes thing will likely be extended through 2010 and 2011. Of course none of this matters to the Republicans who will continue to just make stuff up about the president’s record. Reality is irrelevant.

Impossible, Obamacare alone is the biggest tax increase in history, everyone knows that.

There was a congressman going on about this after the repeal vote the other day, spouting lie after lie after made up bullshit. How do they get away with this crap?

Rabid right wing base, complicit media, etc.

On a related note to your post, I want to slap the next Republican who gets on TV and says they want to replace Obamacare with a “step by step” approach without actually articulating policy. The GOP doesn’t have any policy anymore, just poll-tested talking points.

Because if the media actually fact checked republicans, it would be a clear sign of liberal bias.

Actually, 2009 was the year anti-tax protesters (aided and abetted by the Republican Party) began lying about what White House tax policies are. There is a difference, whether the Washington POS wants there to be or not.
