In other news, House Republican leaders are considering sidelining the farm appropriations bill which would have cut $16 billion from the SNAP program.

The real problem for the Republicans on this particular issue is that business doesn’t want the cuts because SNAP benefits them. Kicking 1.8 million people off the rolls means 1.8 million fewer people buying their goods.

    This ought to help dispel the notion that “business” tends to be “conservative” or right-wing in its “thinking” or in action.
    Businesses, business people, owners – they are opportunists, not ideologues.
    It’s how the the biggest corporations, such as GE, or big Pharma, are able to play both sides against each other, pandering to both and pandered to by both. Corporations and government are in bed together. As the ACA, for one, is a prime example, it’s not just Republicans slipping lucky charms under the corporate pillow.
