Another Case of Republican Amnesia

Paul Ryan appeared outside of a closed SUV factory yesterday and criticized the president for not preventing the closure of the facility.

“I remember President Obama visiting it when he was first running, saying he’ll keep that plant open,” Ryan said in Ohio Thursday, describing the shuttered GM factory in Janesville, Wis. “One more broken promise.”

And now… The rest of the story.

But after the financial crisis and a collapse in demand for the SUVs the factory produced, it shut down in December 2008 in the waning days of Bush’s second term. It’s still owned by GM, but has been closed ever since.

That’s right. The plant was shut down before President Obama was inaugurated. But as we’ve all observed, history began on 1/20/09. The debt started on that date from zero. The deficit, too. The financial crisis. The wars. All President Obama’s fault.

Republicans lie because they can. They know their base gets all their information from Faux News and right wing radio and internet. So to them what Ryan said is the truth for all the know.

      Yes.

I think it’s gotten worse this election than I’ve ever seen it previously, don’t you, KQuark?

This, and the money they’re spending, scares the hell out of me.

It’s no longer just “Faux News” Most of the MSM have joined Fox news in covering up Republican lies. Ryan just joined his boss, Romney, who lies all the time without any consequences.

Let’s see, Ryan has abandoned his own Medicare plan, after blaming the $716 billion in cuts he wanted to make to it on Obama (‘Wah, he did it first!’); he’s disavowed his 30-years-plus love affair with economic guru Ayn Rand because he supposedly just found out recently she was an atheist (careful reader, that Ryan); and he’s signed on to Romney’s Medicare plan which is either very similar or very different from his own plan, depending on what day of the week it is. The ‘made-it-on-my-own’ Ignorati who drool over Ryan from the comfort of their gov’t-paid Hoverounds and collect their Social Security checks will no doubt buy this reeking nonsense, but how will the ‘intellectuals’ of the GOP like George Eff Will and David Brooks handle this lack of core conservative principles from one of their heroes? Cover fire, pretzel logic and full embrace of the bold-faced lying? Dick Cheney said he worships the ground Ryan walks on — it’s akin to Nero endorsing Caligula — or vice versa.

The GOP’s entire strategy depends on people not having memory of events that happened more than about 90 days ago. Hell, it worked for GW Bush, so why wouldn’t it work now?
