But, But the Moon Landing Was Staged!

One of NASA’s leading scientists on the climate crisis released a study showing that the current heat waves and crazy weather is absolutely a consequence of the climate crisis.

…the likelihood of such temperatures occurring from the 1950s through the 1980s was rarer than 1 in 300. Now, the odds are closer to 1 in 10, according to the study by NASA scientist James Hansen. He says that statistically what’s happening is not random or normal, but pure and simple climate change.

“This is not some scientific theory. We are now experiencing scientific fact,” Hansen told The Associated Press in an interview.

Hansen is a scientist at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York and a professor at Columbia University.

Yeah, but NASA filmed the Moon landing on a Hollywood stage, so this guy must be part of the Al Gore Obama Liberal Solyndra Conspiracy AAAAHHHH!

As evidence for climate change makes it more difficult for them to deny, I’m hearing a new cop-out from the wingers. We’re in the End Times and biblical prophecies are being revealed. Humans didn’t do anything wrong by fucking up the Earth; it’s God’s will.

Most will never admit that they are misguided and stupid. Nothing is ever their fault.

How long until they start blaming Obama for it?

      • tangles

I wish I was kidding when I tell you they already do. I know a winger who’s convinced that our military, under Obama, is developing and testing ways to alter our weather.

    lol.

I particularly love the moon landing “conspiracy”

I generally respond along the lines of “go on and keep believing that the moon landing was faked. that’s what they WANT YOU to think.”.

It also has the benefit of being more plausible, when you consider the fact that Wernher Von Braun was largely responsible for getting us there, via Operation Paperclip =).

Sometimes the truth is more twisted than the conspiracy.

At this point, climate change denial (it’s not skepticism and hasn’t been for at least a decade) has to be seen as a deliberate disinformation campaign.

There are few things that I am as passionate about as respecting the Earth and fighting industry induced Climate Change (and in general, the abuse humans inflict on our only home with geelful disregard). I believe that above any topic facing humanity this will affect us in ways we, as a species, have not had to endure in 12,000 years (the last Ice Age).

At times I find myself in fits of despair and then pull out of that to be the intrepid optimist and, in my own way, an eco-warrior.

After reading about this willful ignorance (http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2012/08/01/624821/sessions-i-am-offended-by-views-of-climate-scientists/) I understand the mindset of environmental terrorists…I really do. I sympathize with folks that want to sabotage oil refineries and murder poachers. I don’t agree with those tactics because I’d rather bring people to an understanding than destroy them.

So I read about the polar ice melting and the forests lighting up and wonder how in the world will we survive ourselves?

We do so by continuing the fight and believing…knowing that it’s worth saving our only home.

    Oi…how dramatic I get…

… Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) was more than surprised when informed by Senator Barbara Boxer that roughly 98 percent of climate scientists, contra [climate change denier John] Christy, accepted that anthropogenic warming was real and serious — he was outraged:

Sessions: Madam Chairman, I am offended by that, I’m offended by that — I didn’t say anything about the scientists. I said the data shows [sic] it is not warming to the degree that a lot of people predicted, not close to that much…

Boxer: The conclusion that you’re coming to is shared by 1-2 percent of the scientists. You shouldn’t be offended by that. That’s the fact.

      Sessions: I don’t believe that’s correct.

History shows that one shouldn’t expect much from Jeff Sessions. This is a splendid example of why.
