Where Was I?

In other news, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke remarked today that austerity measures at the federal, state, and local level are hampering economic growth. Bernanke also indicated that the Fed may engage in another round of quantitative easing next month. (AP)

If they do, you can expect a full court right-wing press rage-a-thon claiming the Fed is “in the tank” for President Obama.

Also — here’s a time-lapse video of the Democratic convention stage being built.

For President Obama’s convention speech, I’d like to see him totally do a riff on the “you didn’t build that” misquote. He could start talking about the fact that his job requires the assistance and cooperation of very competent people. Maybe he could start with the Lily Ledbetter Act, mention how that would have never happened if not for Lily, and then bring her on stage to stand next to him. Then he could mention other successes, each time praising the help he received from Leon Panetta, or Seal Team Six, or Hilary Clinton, or his teachers and professors, etc. By the time his speech was over, there would be so many people on stage with him that you couldn’t really see him, only hear him talking and “spreadin” the credit for his successes around.

He could finish on an optimistic note based on how much we can achieve when we decide to work together, reminding every one that we are a UNITED States of America.

Or is it too late to make an appeal to something other than fear? Is that the only thing that drives public opinion anymore?
