Let Them Go Bankrupt!

Are you better off than four years ago? American automakers are better off.

August sales ran at an annual pace of about 14.5 million vehicles, automakers and analysts said.

General Motors Co. said its U.S. sales rose 10% to 240,520 in August compared with the same month a year earlier.

Ford Motor Co. reported that sales increased 13% to 197,249 vehicles as shoppers gravitated to smaller cars. […]

Chrysler Group said its sales rose 14% to 148,472 vehicles compared with the same month a year earlier. It was the automaker’s best August sales since 2007. Chrysler’s gain was driven in part by sales of its new Dodge Dart compact sedan. Ram truck sales also were strong.

And it’s not the super-rich who are buying Dodge Darts and Dodge Rams. It’s average consumers in the middle and lower class. The real job creators.

Here’s your obligatory Mitt Romney column “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.”

A winger I know brought up the GM bailout over the weekend and went on about how the unions made out like bandits and all the bondholders “got it up the *ss”. Then went on that the taxpayers all got stuck with the bill for the unions. I slowly changed the subject, but really wanted to know, what the hell was he talking about? Is this one of those alternate reality things?

I think they’re referring to the 10% ownership of GM that the UAW received as part of the restructuring deal.

Wait… the bondholders “got it up the ass?” I wonder how far up the ass they would have gotten it if Mitt Romney got his way.

It is, of course, another of their alternate reality memes. It’s always those damned unions with them. And, as i_a_c points out, the “bondholders” would have lost everything in a bankruptcy. Well the small ones anyway, the super-rich would be the only ones to recover any of their money – just like they always do.

Also, too: As a special HaHA! I received a mailer this week from some astro-turf group telling me the Chinese are the only ones who made a profit from the GM bailout.

I have been hearing the Chinese BS too. Since the auto bailout was such a success the only thing that they can do is put a plausible lie out there. First they tried to say that the car companies haven’t paid the US back and then they started saying that okay the auto companies survived but all of the money went toward opening factories in China. It’s not easy to counter because I don’t keep stats of what auto factories were created and by whom. I mean, who does!? It is just plain exhausting keeping up with their lie machine.

As Mr. Brink would say, Romney and the Republicans are anti-American. They are against American citizens (unless you’re a millionaire), against American jobs, against American companies (unless you’re a millionaire), against American troops, and against American government.

The only reason they accuse liberals of being anti-American is because they’re projecting their own characteristics onto the opposition.

    • D_C_Wilson

The one thing Americans need to realize is that we don’t share the same interest as people like Romney. While most of us just hope to pay out bills each month and maybe save a little for a night out, their goal is to own everything and pay for nothing.

Yeah, who the fuck in America cares about American made cars from American companies built by American workers, huh? Everyone should stick it to these socialist infected outlets and go buy cars from Japan or Germany. That way, they’ll stick up for Real America. [/sarcasm]

Jesus Fuck, do these wingnuts have any idea how stupid their attitudes are? Or is that just a rhetorical question?
