1.8 Million Donors in September

While the Wall Street Journal previously estimated that the Obama campaign would raise $150 million in September, it turns out they were off by more than $30 million.

Jim Messina announced today that the campaign raised a total of $181 million during the month of September from over 1.8 million donors.

An email to supporters from campaign manager Jim Messina said that 1.8 million people donated an average of $53 each in September, including 567,000 people giving for the first time.

Since Obama launched his reelection campaign in April 2011, 3,922,420 people have donated to the campaign, he said.

98 percent of donations made to the campaign in September were less than $250.

But Wall Street is Obama’s biggest donor! He takes it all from Wall Street and he’s just as bad as Romney!!

Sorry. Just had to get that EmoProg/FDL line of thinking out there before anyone else did.

This is very good news. Sadly, JM, while I hope that your concluding sentence should put an end to the “both candidates are bought off by Wall Street” meme, I have a sad feeling that it won’t.

That’s really impressive, but it pains me to think that it takes 567,000 people to donate what one guy like Sheldon Adelson can do with a single check.

Yep, but fortunately for us, that son-of-a-bitch gets only one vote just like us po’ folks.

        Well, okay.

But he’s buying influence that our “one vote” can’t compare to.

Well said, nicole! Grassroots fundraising makes it difficult to buy a politician’s vote.

        Exactly!

Wall Street donors abandoned Pres. Obama back in February. I don’t think they like his stance on the middle class or his regulation of WS.

We need to crack down further on the hedge fund crooks on Wall Street rather than on our favorite bird!

Wall Street may have “abandoned” Obama but Main Street hasn’t. I think that bodes well.
