President Obama at the Red Cross

President Obama visited the Red Cross today and delivered an address on the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and the coordination efforts between federal, state, and local governments.

A key quote:

Earlier today I had a conversation with the governors and many of the mayors in the affected areas including Governor Christie, Governor Cuomo, and Mayor Bloomberg. I want to praise them for the extraordinary work that they have done. Sadly, we are getting more experience with these kinds of big impact storms along the east coast and the preparation shows. Were it not for the outstanding work that they and their teams have already done and will continue to do in the affected regions we could have seen more deaths and more property damage. They have done extraordinary work working around the clock. The coordination between the state, local, and federal governments has been outstanding.

Sandy was the second major storm to hit the east coast in two years and the northeast now seems to be just as likely to be hit by a major hurricane as the gulf coast because of rising water temperatures and changing weather patterns. As the president said the good, if not tragic, news is that we’re now more prepared.

On the disaster timeline, we’re still four days away from the when FEMA finally arrived at the Superdome in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

Can you imagine how horrible it would have been without radar? Would have made Katrina look like a cakewalk (and I’m not dissing the damage of Katrina at all).

So, who wins the cupie doll on Fox for being the first to declare this “Obama’s Katrina”?

I like to think this is “Obama’s Katrina” If Obama had been President during Katrina it would have looked more like Sandy.

This is what it looks like when the grown ups are in charge.
The President isn’t doing a lazy flyover, landing only long enough for a photo-op with the buddy of a college roommate he appointed to pay back a favor.
He’s not paying lip service to helping out the citizens of states that he has locked up at the ballot box anyway.
He didn’t gut the agencies that handle these types of disasters ahead of time and fill their administrative positions with unqualified cronies.
He stepped away from the political frenzy and went to work doing his job.
If mistakes are made, he will take responsibility for them and work to make sure they don’t occur the next time.
His opponent will spend the next week scurrying around trying to make political hay out of tragedy, pausing only long enough to pronounce some new lie for his gullible followers to digest.
The differences are so glaring, children could see them. Too bad there is a segment of the electorate that has made an art out of not growing up.
The Republicans are really the Lord’s of the Fly’s.

Coming soon to disaster relief centers near you – Romney Rations!

Get your fill of Privatized Peas, Voucher Veggies and Candied Libyams! No need to actually visit the disaster area; just collect them at your nearest convenient campaign site.

Be sure to bring a donation for the Romney/Ryan campaign. And, if you must, I guess the Red Cross is collecting money or something, I dunno. They want food AND money, the greedy bastards.

      • Victor_the_Crab

That wouldn’t be far from the truth. Especially the last paragraph.

Rmoney is going to take all the money he’s collecting for disaster relief and put it in a dividend paying tax deferred annuity, just like his charitable contributions to his church. That way, he can save money with the tax shelter, earn money with the dividends, and maybe even route some of the dwindling initial investment to the actual victims of the storm.

    • D_C_Wilson

Well, you didn’t see any flooding in Ohio, did you? Did you??

      Checkmate, Barry!

      • Victor_the_Crab

Yeah? Well I refuse to accept emperical reality as is, and instead use my own worldview created by Fox News as my default reality. I win, you lose, nyah-nyah!

In the meantime, Romney did call some governors to express support. But he only called Republican governors. So much for his claim of bipartisanship.

    What a douchebag.
