Romney Frightens Auto Workers for Political Gain

Last week the Romney campaign claimed that, because of President Obama, Chrysler was planning to move all of its Jeep production from Ohio to China. And while the claim was summarily debunked by most of the media, independent fact checkers, and Chrysler itself, Romney did manage to strike fear into the hearts of at least one group of voters; the men and women who work at Chrysler’s Jeep production facility in Toledo, Ohio.

From the New York Times

Bruce Baumhower, the president of the United Auto Workers local that oversees the major Jeep plant here, said Mr. Romney’s initial comments on moving production to China drew a rash of calls from members concerned about their jobs. When he informed them Chrysler was, in fact, is expanding its Jeep operation here, he said in an interview, “The response has been, ‘That’s pretty pitiful.’ ”

Chrysler is actually planning to add 1,100 new jobs and a third shift of workers at its Jeep production facility in Ohio. They are not planning to ship them to China.

As of today the Romney campaign has so far refused to back down from the big lie even though Chrysler has publicly stated that they are not relocating their Jeep production capacity. Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne also also emailed employees to say that he feels “obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China,” and that it is “inaccurate to suggest anything different.”

Rather than back down after being refuted by Chrysler, the Romney campaign is expanding the big lie by debuting a new radio ad today repeating the same patently false assertions.

So, to carry this a bit further, not only is the Romney campaign willing to place American workers in fear for their jobs, they’re also willing to risk jeopardizing Chrysler’s stock price by repeatedly planting false stories about their strategic manufacturing plans.

Way to look out for American workers, GOP! Country first, huh?

I also found it ironic (again, something that completely escapes the right wing) that the Romney campaign said today it’s time to put aside politics and all come together in this hour of crisis…at a political event.

I am so confused how someone running for the highest office in the land could consistently lie and repeat their lies over and over again, even after brought out about it. It seems as if Romney lives in a different dimension where truth is totally unknown or maybe even fatal???? I know! Romney has a “Fatal Attraction” to Truth Avoidance! http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/10/16/lies-damned-lies-and-jobs/

It’s because he just doesn’t give a rat’s ass if he’s caught lying. He knows Fox will defend him no matter how often his lies get debunked.

So, aside from one more lie in an unending stream of them, is this an example of how a severe conservative, small-government advocate gets out of the way of businesses?

There is a story, apparently true (and the fine details of which I have managed to forget), of a Chinese leader who ordered his granary officer to put his army on half rations, even though there was plenty of food. When the understandable grumbling reached the desired volume, said leader had the granary officer beheaded and his head nailed to a placard accusing him of stealing food and selling it on the black market. The enthusiasm of the now well-fed army was such that it easily defeated all rivals and its leader became emperor.

I’d almost think that’s what Mitt Romney is trying to do in Ohio, except it would take a lot more subtlety and planning than the Romney campaign has shown to date.

Well, if anyone knows about sending American manufacturing jobs to China, it’s Mitt Romney, former CEO of Bain.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Putting the interests of Communist China ahead of the U.S. and it’s people. And St. Ronny of Raygun would approve of this?!!

Lying and scarring the blue collar workers in the most important swing state in the nation. Yeah, that’ll work (translation: the fuck it will!).

The only reason that the Romney cabal lies, is that he knows that he will get away with it, because of the even more incompetent, corrupt, lying MSM and pundit corporate cabal, who refuse to honour their job specs.

There is something real to be afraid of. Google Greg Palast on Romney, listen in awe about how Romney hid under his wife’s skirt via a blind trust, made money off the Delphi workers and tax payers, and then shut 28 of 29 plants. And this man claims to build jobs for America? A man who would lie about his own first name cannot be trusted with a dollar, let alone the lives of voters and tax payers.
