The Latest Team Romney Dogwhistle

According to Romney campaign co-chair John Sununu, President Obama couldn’t keep up with Mitt Romney’s cavalcade of lies last night because hes a lazy stupid black man.

Mitt Romney campaign co-chair and former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu (R) appeared on Fox News on Thursday and took a victory lap following last night’s first presidential debate. Sununu described Obama’s performance as “babbling” and “lazy,” and dismissed the possibility that he could do better in the future. “When you’re not that bright you can’t get better prepared,” he said.

John Sununu is walking, talking “stupid black man” joke that privileged white kids tell to each other in middle school before growing up and realizing they’re douches. Except Sununu never did grow up.

Sununu blew the dogwhistle as hard as he could, but there’s also a lot of (as they say at Sadly, No!) IT’S ALWAYS PROJECTION.

During a separate interview on MSNBC, Sununu doubled down on the characterization. “I think you saw him admit it the night before when he delivered the pizzas. He said, you know, they’re making me do this work. He didn’t want to prepare for this debate. He’s lazy and disengaged.”

“You guys said Reagan and George W. Bush were lazy and disengaged! Nuh-uh! It’s Obama who’s lazy and disengaged! Times infinity, no backsies!”

Time to add John Sununu to my list of people I’d like to hit with a cricket bat.

It’s remarkable how right wingers like John Sununu have taught themselves to both talk and shit out of the same orifice.

      Which orifice ?

How does he manage to breath while sitting on his face?

About Sununu’s comments….yeesh. But I’m not surprised, really. It’s the usual dog-whistle that’s been blown every so often for the past four years–and yes, “both sides” have done it (such as Dave Swanson and Cenk Ugyer on the left complaining about Obama’s lack of smarts).

    Now though, it’s going full-blast.

Look, last night wasn’t a good one, we can see that. But….haven’t we been here before? The President takes a hit but then gets up and hits back and beats the odds. And let’s face it–Romney’s “win” was based on bald-faced lies and him yelling and screaming and threating Big Bird and PBS. And what the fuck was wrong with Jim Lerher? Talk about “milquetoast”!

If what the pundits want in a President is a man and shrieks and talks in a loud voice while lying his ass off, then yeah, in their eyes Romney “won”. But let’s not forget that the pundits cheered on another jerk who did this back in 2000–and you know who that was and what the hell he did to this country.

    Sunnunu, seriously?

I can see why Romney’s campaign would jump past the dog whistle to straight up call the President a nigg@r. With black support reportedly as negligible, it’s not like they are going to hurt their chances with the AA dempgraphic, yet give the face of white rightousness to their southern white male supporters. Romney may as well go all-in with the divisive bullshit at this point.

  • Brutlyhonest

OK, is he a lazy, stupid black man OR the crafty, socialist mofo destroying “your” Country?

    • D_C_Wilson

Well, he’s simultaneously a Muslim who attends a reparations theology church.

Cognitive dissonance has never been a problem in the wingnut brain.

John Sununu is walking, talking “stupid black man” joke that privileged white kids tell to each other in middle school before growing up and realizing they’re douches.

The shiftless, lazy, stupid black man meme is one assholes like Sununu pull out just before going on some eugenics rant.

I all too clearly remember hearing shit like that in middle school and realizing, at that time, the dickheads telling them were douches. It just gets so tiresome…I know we’re not really as far past our racial bullshit as we’d like to believe but Jeezuz, man, I really didn’t think a major national campaign–for President!–would so blatantly yet blithely lay it all right out on the table for all to see like that. Over and over, no less.

Q: Why hasn’t Romney at least disavowed everything Sununu has said on his behalf yet? A: Because either 1) he agrees with him, or, 2) it hasn’t occurred to him that Sununu has said anything crazy. I just can’t think of any other explanation.

And, oh by the way…I googled the word “eugenics” and took a look at the Wikipedia entry for it and lo and behold found the photo below right there of a “Winning family of a Fitter Family contest stand[ing] outside of the Eugenics Building (where contestants register) at the Kansas Free Fair, in [my lovely home town of] Topeka, KS.” According to Wikipedia, these contests, an outgrowth of Better Babies contests of the early 20th century, originated here and the winning families would get a “Capper Medal” presented personally by then Kansas Governor and Senator Arthur Capper. Ironically, there is a foundation bearing his name here in town that is dedicated to the care of “crippled” children…

Brings to mind the old joke that if you look up, say, “dickhead” in the dictionary you’d find a picture of, oh, maybe John Sununu there…and it’s hard for me to shake the feeling that this is a picture of what the future may hold for us if Romney’s elected and dicks like Sununu are handed the levers of power again.
