There Should Be a Mental Competence Test for Politicians

If you’re deemed as mentally imbalanced as Allen West (or Bachmann or Steve King or Louie Gohmert), you should be disqualified from running for Congress.

Allen West has clearly lost his campaign but he’s refusing to concede:

Conservative firebrand Rep. Allen B. West (R-Fla.) appears to have lost his reelection bid, with final vote totals in the state’s new 18th Congressional District showing him trailing by more than 2,000 votes.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Democrat Patrick Murphy leads West by 2,442 votes — 50.4 percent to 49.6 percent. That is outside the margin (0.5 percent) for a computer recount.

I’m totally serious about coming up with a way to keep psychotic people out of Congress.

What does West hope to achieve by refusing to concede defeat I wonder…

    • D_C_Wilson

An audition with Roger Ailes and/or Clear Channel.

Why, no manly, red-blooded Merkan male like Allen West is gonna admit that he lost to a godless, socialist, commie, pinko fag Democrat. Think about what that implies. It would be a clear assault upon his manhood… And, well, isn’t everything?

It always comes back to purity of essence, doesn’t it?

I think the top level filter should be, ” IF ‘R’ in parentheses after the candidate’s name, pitch into loony bin.”

I think the real issue here is that the people who elect these “crazies” are convinced that government is not a serious thing, so they may as well vote for them. These voters don’t understand how their uniformly cushy lives are enabled by this “silly government” thing. After all, Ronaoldus Magnus told them that “Government IS the problem,” so they may as well try to trash it. These people are the ones that should be examined before they are allowed to vote.

I never understood how someone could run a campaign on “Government IS the problem”, and yet they were seeking to be . . .

      . . . apart of the government.

I think we are seeing a filter, inadequate as it is…election cycles.
I would love to see a list of the original bagger gang, that included which ones are still in politics…
Election cycles turn out to be like that shampoo they give kids who get lice. Problem is keeping them from getting them in the first place.
Maybe this last election will act like a big bug bomb!

You forgot that psychotic, dead-beat dad, Joe Walsh. Maybe there is another qualification for congress–your child support must be paid to date. I wonder why the founders didn’t put that in?

    • D_C_Wilson

Walsh is a raging misogynist. His refusal to pay child support was motivated by a desire to give his ex payback. His screaming rant in the diner about Dodd-Frank was triggered by the fact that a woman dared to question his knowledge of economics. His attitude during the debates was dismissive and condescending. He even mocked his opponent for picking out the dress she wore at the DNC.

It’s fitting that he was defeated by a woman who was also a disabled veteran. That’s got to really smart.

      • Nefercat

I agree with you 100%. I really like the fact that she is *Captain* Duckworth. I’ll bet that really sticks in his craw.

        • bphoon

          She was a major.

          • Nefercat

Thank you for that update! I looked her up just now and apparently she is now a Lt. Col. and still serving in the Illinois Army National Guard. Go Tammy. :)

  • incredulous72

I’ve constantly said this, but particularly after the 2010 midterms.

  • D_C_Wilson

If the party officials did a better job of weeding out the lunatics during the primary phase, then your idea wouldn’t be necessary.

The real problem is that the local party chiefs are just as nuts as West, Bachmann, or Walsh.
