Tokenism

After a week of deserved criticism and a healthy dose of mockery, John Boehner has decided that he will appoint at least one woman to a committee chairmanship.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) announced on Friday the appointment of Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI) as chairman of the House Administration Committee for the 113th Congress.

“From ensuring the House runs efficiently and smoothly, to making Congress more open and accessible, Candice has a big job ahead as chairman of the House Administration Committee,” Boehner said in a statement. “In her new post, Candice will provide the leadership needed to keep operating costs down, save taxpayer dollars, and help lawmakers use new technology to better engage with their constituents.”

Not to downplay the accomplishments of Candice Miller, but the House Administration Committee? Really?

Maybe the House Administration Committee is more important than it sounds, but this appears more insulting to me than not appointing any women to a committee chairmanship.

Sure! Women are great at administration, you know, just like they do in running households for their men.

Sounds like a glorified office manager.

That’s about all Candice Miller is capable of.

Adds…..Miller is nothing but a far right shill for the GOP, and she could care the fuck less about her constituents.

Also……….Boehner can easily control her, hence the choice.

The committee’s charter includes oversight of Federal elections. From the committee’s website: “Historically, the committee has had a hand in shaping legislation that touches on any and all aspects of federal elections. Issues concerning corrupt practices, contested congressional elections, campaign finance disclosures, and credentials and qualifications of House Members also fall under its purview.” Don’t know what to make of this…

The House GOP’s group photo now looks like progress for women in 1917 America.

    Way to go, suffragists!

At least this is an uptick for Boehner as far as his position on women’s roles go, which had been barefoot and pregnant.

Now, he thinks women also belong in the House typing pool.
