A Light That Runs on Gravity (Sort Of)

Technically, as some of Sullivan’s readers have pointed out, the power comes from the human who lifts the bag of sand and hangs it from the light. Also, a spring-loaded wind-up mechanism would work by the same principle. But still, that’s really damn cool.

    It’s cool, it’s cheap(ish), it’s simple, it serves a real need, and the mechanism may well be more efficient overall than a hand crank. Not bad at all.
