The NRA Really Cares About Children

Here’s their press release from yesterday:

The NRA will continue to focus on keeping our children safe and securing our schools, fixing our broken mental health system, and prosecuting violent criminals to the fullest extent of the law. We look forward to working with Congress on a bi-partisan basis to find real solutions to protecting America’s most valuable asset – our children.

Attacking firearms and ignoring children is not a solution to the crisis we face as a nation.

Yeah. They really, really care about “protecting” children — so much so that they targeted the Obama daughters on the same day they released this horseshit. I’m sure they don’t realize the contradiction, and if they did, they wouldn’t care. They suck.

Their ad about the Obama girls was just disgusting. What kind of idiot wouldn’t understand that he and his family are under extreme threats every moment of every day from the time he became a presidential contender until the day they die. Only racist pigs would begrudge his family the protection. Compare this with GWB–I hate GWB with a burning passion, but I wouldn’t for a moment hesitate to support his family’s protection by the Secret Service. So unless the average American child is under the kind of threat that the Obama girls are under, they shouldn’t need armed guards (and if they did, then we’d have much bigger problems as a country).

It’s all about the wingnut conventional wisdom that Obama is not a legitimate president, that somehow his daughters are not worthy of the protection afforded every other presidential family member. Isn’t he elitist (READ: uppity) for having his children protected? It’s all about racism. They don’t care that the Obama daughters are the targets of thousands of terrorists at home and abroad.

“We look forward to working with Congress”
As if Congress or the President owes them that consideration.

“prosecuting violent criminals to the fullest extent of the law”
Yeah, the NRA supports punishing mass shooters (as if someone out there doesn’t)…but never take away the weapon that allowed him to kill so many UNARMED people so quickly.

When the NRA says, “Attacking firearms and ignoring children is not a solution to the crisis we face as a nation,” it fails to see that A) “attacking” firearms (putting certain restrictions on certain types of them, monitoring them) shows that we are NOT ignoring our children but are putting their safety at the forefront; and B) while this may not be a solution, it’s something long needed and will get things moving in the right direction.

Some confused gun owners seem to think we are attacking
      their children.

According to that statement, The NRA seems to think of itself as the cop and the lawyer when it comes to enforcement and prosecution. Like judge and jury. And I’m not sure crazy people waving their guns around make the best mental health experts.

Reading that, it appears the NRA has assumed the powers to “protect our children, prosecute criminals, and fortify our mental health system.”

Guns can do all of that! The NRA knows what you’re thinking, and yes, guns can also core an apple! Zip-zip!
