What’s Wrong With Montana?

While Montana legislators are considering nullifying federal law, legalizing silencers, and allowing anyone who deems themselves fit to carry a conceal weapon to do so, there’s also this, introduced last week by state Representative Steve Lavin (R).

Provision for vote by corporate property owner. (1) Subject to subsection (2), if a firm, partnership, company, or corporation owns real property within the municipality, the president, vice president, secretary, or other designee of the entity is eligible to vote in a municipal election as provided in [section 1].

The bill has reportedly been tabled, because let’s face it — this is a stretch even for Republicans. They just spent the last year assailing the rights of students and minorities to vote. Passing a bill that allows corporations to vote isn’t advisable.
