Because ACORN!

The Cape Fear Laugh

House Republicans introduced a continuing resolution yesterday that would prevent the federal government from being shut down, and this was tucked away inside of it.

WASHINGTON — A new short-term budget bill introduced on Monday by House Republicans includes a bizarre provision banning federal funding to anti-poverty group ACORN, despite the fact that the group has already been stripped of federal funding — and has been defunct for nearly three years. [...]

Section 510 of the latest legislation, introduced by House Appropriations Chair Hal Rogers (R-Ky.), reads: “None of the funds made available in this Act may be distributed to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) or its subsidiaries or successors.”

The chairman of the House Appropriations Committee apparently isn’t aware that ACORN closed in 2010. The chairman!

There’s no hope for us. Shut it down.

I was reading through that bill and not only do they piss on ACORN’s grave not once, but TWICE(page 221 AND page 105!)they make sure to give corporations that are convicted of felonies and tax dodging wide latitude in qualifying for government funding and contracts, while page 103 pretty much says that no funds for contractors over a million dollars unless they enter into an agreement promising not to sue for “any claim under title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 or any tort related to or arising out of sexual assault or harassment, including assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, or negligent hiring, supervision, or retention.”

Another thing, the word “pornography” actually appeared in this bill, as in:

“(a) None of the funds made available in this Act may be used to maintain or establish a computer network unless such network blocks the viewing, downloading, and exchanging of pornography.”(SEC. 509.)

Sexual assault and harassment is cool, but pornography is not.

That’s section 509. just before Section 510, which says, for the second time in this bill:

“None of the funds made available in this Act may be distributed to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) or its subsidiaries or successors.”

It’s important to point out that this bill is Defense Appropriation-focused. A bill that says fuck everything else, we’re keeping our funding for the military contractors and overseas contingency plans, even allocating funding for military coffins.

“This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Department of Defense, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and 6 Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013.”

Republicans think ACORN is enough of a national security threat to defund it twice in one fucking bill that should be totally unrelated.

    So, to sum up:

No ACORN. No pornography. No funding for claims brought by government contractors under the Civil Rights Act. More wars, more indefinite detention, more destruction, and, again, no more ACORN.

Oh yeah, if ACORN doesn’t exist any more, how did they steal the election last year?

You can’t explain that, can you?

    /snark.
