Senate Republicans Sneak Pro-Gun Nonsense into Spending Bill

Goddamn these people are shameless:

A bipartisan Senate bill preventing a federal shutdown would make four long-standing gun protections permanent, including one preventing the Justice Department from requiring firearms dealers to conduct inventories to make sure weapons haven’t been stolen, congressional aides from both parties said.

Another provision made permanent would prevent the government from changing the definition of antique guns, which can sometimes be easier to obtain than modern weapons. Two others would block the department from denying a license to firearms dealers who report no business activity, and require the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to include language in firearms data stating that the information can’t be used to make conclusions about gun crimes.

There’s a law that says the DOJ can’t force gun dealers to engage in theft prevention? By the way, how does this have anything to do with the 2nd Amendment? Of course the spending bill will pass with this awfulness intact, that is unless someone gets the crapola yanked out asap.

    Goddamn these people are shameless:

And able to get away with it only because, Goddamn, these liberals are spineless and let them.:

Liberals still cling to the antiquated idea that to get things done in government, you have to make deals and compromise. They still don’t understand that conservatives have stopped playing that game and realized they can get more for less (or even nothing) if they just dig their heals in and refuse to compromise on anything

To get things done in government you do need to compromise. That hasn’t changed.

But to get things done you do need to recognize when the other side has no interest in compromise and stop trying to work with them.

It’s stuff like this that makes it hard to get excited about anything. When we, as Democrats or Liberals, lose an election we get war with Iran and government spying on our e-mail. When we win we get the Heritage Foundation Health Care Plan and Chained CPI.

I fully understand divided government and compromise. To me that means taking the hit on Social Security with means testing but getting rid of the cap on wages we pay the tax on.

We always seem to start at the mid point of the negotiation and work towards the right. Sometimes I wish we could be more like the Republicans. They lose elections but still propose legislation that’s further to the right then they ran on, i.e. the Ryan Road to Ruin.

I need some good news today to wash this foul taste out of me mouth.

Actually the ACA is different in a number of ways from the Heritage plan the only similarity is the individual mandate. Actually the ACA is similar to the compromise bill be negotiated by Richard Nixon and Ted Kennedy in the 70′s. Also last time I checked we are not at war with Iran, and we don’t know if a chained cpi in any form will pass because it’s a negotiating tactic.

Nancy Pelosi got some really great bills out of the House when Democrats had the majority. We were about five senate seats away from not having to negotiate downward. We’re close. Elections matter. We’re one swinging Supreme Court appointment away from a majority. House Democrats received over a million more votes than Republicans, and in total defiance of the will of the people and counter to the will of the majority, the GOP managed to steal a disproportionate share of power. But If we hold what we’ve got, we need about 17 more seats to take back the majority there. Republicans in the Senate are doomed. Hillary is leading every early poll. I’m hearing talk of maybe turning Texas blue, and damn it, I think it’s gonna happen. These signs, humble as they may be, are indicative of progress and the prevailing of beautiful things.

House Democrats received over a million more votes than Republicans

I keep seeing that said as if it’s a strong selling pint. It has some significance but until every district contains exactly the same population, not nearly as much as folks seem to be giving it.

A Robinson (R) lost in the Oregon 4th despite getting 138,000 votes. J. Matheson (D) won in the Utah 4th with only 108,000 votes. Would there be any sense to saying the Republican got over 30,000 more votes than the Democrat?

        • mrbrink

In what universe would Art Robinson ever win in Oregon’s 4th district?! He got crushed by Peter DeFazio in the last election.

Republicans hold on to power even when they lose by millions of votes. Something about that seem strange to you?

Missed the point entirely, didn’t you, mrbrink?

“Shameless”, indeed. After all, these people are fascists, and they don’t give a rat’s ass what the rest of us want.

    • Clecinosu

“Shameless” never quite hits the mark when describing the GOP.

If only they knew what shame was, then it might make an impression.

require the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to
include language in firearms data stating that the information can’t be
used to make conclusions about gun crimes.

So, the ATF can conduct research, they just can use the results for law enforcement purposes?

    WTF?
