Obama’s Fault

According to a new poll from Public Policy Polling, more Republicans in Louisiana blame President Obama for Hurricane Katrina than former President Bush.

Twenty-eight percent said they think former President George W. Bush, who was in office at the time, was more responsible for the poor federal response while 29 percent said Obama, who was still a freshman U.S. Senator when the storm battered the Gulf Coast in 2005, was more responsible. Nearly half of Louisiana Republicans — 44 percent — said they aren’t sure who to blame.

Meanwhile, Salon tells us today that the president could have told British authorities not to detain Greenwald’s partner if he wanted to. And so what if he doesn’t actually have the authority to tell the British what to do with a citizen of Brazil?

It’s all Obama’s fault.

ThanksObama

I think QuestLove was onto something when he wrote “you ain’t shit.”

“Meanwhile, Salon tells us today that the president could have told British authorities not to detain Greenwald’s partner if he wanted to.”

Meanwhile, Salon also tells us today that conservatives are at risk of splintering their base by over-hyping threats, promoting paranoia and over-promising on what is actually politically/legally viable.

Oh to be a fly on the wall in the Salon editorial board meetings…

    • D_C_Wilson

Chez has it right in his column today. It’s all outrage porn and click bait.

      • WiscoJoe

Thanks for the hat tip. I just read his column.

I somehow missed the Patton Oswald stuff last July, but glad to know I’m not the only one that’s noticed the, er, change within Salon over the past several change.

  • KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker

So many of these southern hicks who are so stupid that they blame President Obama for something that occurred years before he took office, all get to vote with their gun permit ID, yet College Student Cards are prohibited.
    Face palm!

    • Nefercat

And that is *why* the goobers with the gun permits are allowed to vote. Clearly they will vote the “right” way.

  • formerlywhatithink

Will someone please straighten which Obama narrative I’m supposed to agree with:

    1. Obama telling other countries what to do is bullying.

    Or

    2. Obama telling other countries what to do is his duty.

Because the far left sure seems to swing wildly between the two.

    • WiscoJoe

The narrative you’re supposed to agree with is that the President should do exactly what you want to happen exactly how you want it to happen exactly when you want it to happen otherwise he is a tyrant and representative democracy is dead forever. Therefore unelected officials should have the authority to determine what is and is not in the best interests of the entire nation and should also supersede the Judiciary in having the authority to interpret and enforce the Constitution and also should determine in which situations other sovereign nations are allowed to enforce their own laws, which in no way would be a form of tyranny itself.

      • Bubble Genius

The above is great except you didn’t use the word “regime” enough.

        • Lady Willpower

          Or “extra-judicial.”

          • villemar

Or “Surveillance State.” You could have shoehorned “Wake up sheeple!” in there quite nicely too.

        • Hal Swann

The easier way to say it would be: If you’re not angry at Obama at 11am, Crying about him at 12 noon, and begging for his help by 1pm, you’re not a true progressive.

      • D_C_Wilson

And when he does do exactly what you want, find a reason to decry it any way.

  • Draxiar

And my cake that collapsed from the sound my neighbors made at supper time? Yeah….Obama!

  • Alyson Chadwick

You know, last week I accidentally bleached a black dress. It’s grey now. Damn you, President Obama. You should have stopped me from doing that!

  • Bubble Genius

In other news, 53% of Americans aren’t sure whether President Obama is to blame for the Cuban Missile Crisis, or if it was Ricky Ricardo’s fault.

    • Zen Diesel

I thought Obama was to blame for the assassination of archduke franz ferdinand that started World War 1.

      • Hal Swann

They won’t go that far, but they may insist he was driving the car.

        • Nefercat

Oh, I think they would go that far. If any of them had the slightest idea who Archduke Franz Ferdinand was (or his wife Sophie) or that that was a war with only one “I” before the one with two.

          • Bubble Genius

I thought Franz Ferdinand was a band. And Sophie had a choice. What?

      • D_C_Wilson

He also killed the LIndberg baby and committed the Ripper Murders.

      • drspittle

And what about “The Fall of Man” and “Original Sin”? And the crucifixion? And, and, and, overhyped annoying TV shows like “Smash”? Huh? Huh?

      • http://phydeauxpseaks.blogspot.com Bob Rutledge

        He also sheared

the oncoming ship with his Awesome Islamunofascist Commie Ray©.

      • Victor_the_Crab

And the Hindenberg. Don’t forget, he blew up the Hindenberg
Oh the humanity! Why Obama. WHY?!!

  • Zen Diesel

I sit patiently and wait for the day when Obama activates his UN sanctioned jack booted thug army, declare himself supreme ruler, and take his rightful place as the Anti-Christ.

    • moelarryandjesus

Yeah, that’s gonna be cool. And think how much fun it will be looting all the fundie houses after the Rapture!

      • Vic78

I got dibs on the big screens and a Bentley.

    • JMAshby

Looks like a promotion poster for a John Carpenter film in the 80’s

    • Victor_the_Crab

Is that one of those dumbass Jon McNaughton paintings?

  • Hal Swann

This coming from a group that still tries to defund a program that was shut down three years ago, surprises you?

  • Norbrook

Most of these nitwits went off the rails when it turned out that instead of being really a radical black socialist muslim (as the right was screaming about), he actually was what he said he was, and started doing what he said he was going to do: Be a pragmatic, slightly left of center but mostly centrist president. Oh, and in the process start fixing the incredible mess left by his predecessor and start moving the country forward. Which meant “no single payer nationalized healthcare” (didn’t have the votes in Congress), no “break up corporations” (no legal justification), and “throw all of Wall Street in jail!” (for the heck of it). Oh, and while he was at it, have them into the White House every other week to give him instructions on what to do next.

    • Zen Diesel

“Scratches chin” What is it about this President that causes the right to lose it’s mind over him…..lol

      • Norbrook

Heck, it’s so-called “leftier than thou” group I was talking about as well. Of course, they’ll all also hurry to tell you they have friends who are black.

  • Nefercat

I’m surprised about those results. Where were these people during Katrina? I would have thought that they would have all drowned just staring up at the rain.

    • D_C_Wilson

I’m not surprised at all. Hatred of Obama has become a conditioned reflex for these wingnuts. It doesn’t matter what it is. If you mention his name, they will start shrieking with rage like those aliens from Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

    • mrbrink

      Now that is funny.

    I totally love that GIF.

My 1973 El Camino fell off the concrete blocks and killed my wife’s dog. Thanks, Obama!!!!!

  • mrbrink

It’s almost as devoid of reason as using Bradley Manning as a crude accountability stick to beat the president with, rather than go after the Bush administration for some of what Manning exposed. But I guess for the actual right wing architects of war crimes, earning millions in idiot-language speaking fees and enjoying their lifetime appointments to the federal courts, congress, media boards, think tanks, and Super PACs is punishment enough for Republicans if we can just get Obama and Hillary to apologize to Bradley Manning, Glenn Greenwald, Al-awlaki, Hank Williams Jr., and Ted Nugent and admit that they are clearly in the tank for the New World Order, we could make this world a newer one, with an order to things.

They turned evidence of Bush era war crimes into a “Free Bradley Manning!” protest and “stop persecuting us!” complex. This is why we can’t have nice things.

    • http://drangedinaz.wordpress.com/ IrishGrrrl

Hear, hear…..I would only add one thing……

“…we could make this world a newer one, with a pre-twenty-first century order to things”

      • mrbrink

Pity the poor, disenfranchised slobs across America on welfare and food pantry sustenance with their fracking bathwater stench and their uncouth, labor-union-demeanor. I really do hope things work out for the poor dears, I’ll speak of them with solemn, condescending reverence when I can, but we’ve got this Obama attack on our freedoms Depression going on, and I’ve got to do what I think is best for you.

        Signed, “FighttheGoodFightLOL@GRRRRR/Obama.toldyaso.com!”

    • Victor_the_Crab

And that is why we cannot have nice things.

      • mrbrink

Well, our microwave ovens and our rice and beans and our $200 dollars worth of accumulated assets are nice things I’m told.
